
The Spanish government said the talks took place at the Spanish Foreign Ministry in Madrid. The US delegation was led by Finance Minister Scott Bessent, while the Chinese delegation was led by Vice Premier He Lifeng. According to Chinese officials, the Chinese delegation will stay in Madrid until September 17.
Previously, on September 12, a spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said that in the coming days, the two sides will discuss issues such as the US's unilateral tariff measures, the application of export control measures, and issues related to the operation of the social networking platform TikTok in the US.
Regarding the TikTok issue, the Trump administration has asked TikTok's owner, ByteDance, to sell the platform to a non-Chinese buyer by September 17 or face a ban in the US. Meanwhile, China's Ministry of Commerce has called on the US to resolve the issue through dialogue, on the basis of mutual respect and equal consultation. On September 12, a spokesperson for the ministry also affirmed that China's stance is clear and consistent, affirming that the country is determined to protect the legitimate rights and interests of enterprises and will handle the issue in accordance with relevant laws.
