Nghe An welcomes nearly 9.5 million tourists each year, but international visitors are only about 120,000 people.

Possessing many unique natural landscapes and cultural relics, Nghe An has not yet become a familiar destination for international tourists.

According to the report of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in 2024, the whole province welcomed 9.45 million tourists, of which international visitors only reached 120,500, accounting for 1.2%. In the first 6 months of 2025, this rate decreased to more than 0.8% (50,800 out of a total of 6.2 million visitors).

According to tourism businesses, the reason for this situation is that Nghe An 's infrastructure and tourism products are not yet synchronized, not meeting the needs of foreign visitors for a complete experience. Even many prominent destinations in the province such as Vinpearl Cua Hoi Resort, Muong Thanh Dien Lam Eco-tourism Area... still mainly welcome domestic visitors. Potential international markets such as Thailand, Korea, Europe... are almost absent.

The high-end accommodation system in Nghe An is limited to a few 4-5 star hotels, large projects such as May Resort, Cau Cau Resort are slow to be implemented. Modern shopping areas, walking streets, entertainment and recreation areas have barely formed, making it difficult to "retain" tourists with high spending ability.

In addition, many scenic spots and historical relics have not been connected into professional tours; community and eco-tourism products are still fragmented and lack unique highlights.

In addition, the procedures for entry by road, especially when entering the border area of ​​Western Nghe An, are still complicated; businesses lack foreign language guides and international standard tourism human resources. Promotional work in foreign markets is still limited, the scale of promotional programs is not enough to make an impression...

According to Mr. Tran Xuan Cuong - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the industry has clearly identified "bottlenecks" and is promoting solutions such as: participating more strongly in international tourism fairs, promoting on multilingual social networks, providing investment incentives for large-scale tourism - entertainment complexes, building model tours connecting relics and typical cultural products, and speeding up the progress of key projects...
