At first, the incident seemed like a typical case of bad behavior on an airplane. However, dozens of passengers on the flight said the man acted like that "to protect everyone, to gain everyone's support."
At least 77 passengers on the AeroMexico flight to Guatemala signed a handwritten statement and posted photos on social media, expressing support for the man's actions.

The reason was that the airline had delayed the flight for four hours without providing ventilation or drinking water to passengers. "The flight delay and lack of air put the passenger's health at risk. He saved our lives," the passenger's statement said. A video recorded on the flight showed the passenger fanning himself and asking the flight attendant for water.
The airport also announced that "yesterday a passenger on a flight to Guatemala opened the emergency door on the aircraft while it was parked in a remote location, stood on a wing and re-entered the cabin without affecting the aircraft or anyone else."
"In accordance with international security regulations, the person surrendered himself to the authorities," the agency said. Flight tracking sites confirmed that flight AM672 to Guatemala City was delayed by 4 hours and 56 minutes on Thursday.
According to an incident report filed with authorities, at approximately 11:37 a.m. Thursday (January 25), a Mexican airline reported that chaos began due to disgruntled passengers on Flight AM672. The flight was supposed to take off at 8:45 a.m. Thursday, but due to a maintenance alert on board, the captain returned to the gate for required maintenance.
“The passengers were unhappy and one of them opened the emergency door and stepped out onto the wing of the plane,” the report said. Airport authorities did not identify the man and declined to comment on whether he was detained or facing charges.
