Now, coffee lovers are reaping another benefit, according to health site Healthline .

New research, published on October 1 in the biomedical journal The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, has found that coffee can actually help with weight loss.

Accordingly, drinking 1 cup of black coffee without sugar can reduce about 0.12 kg.

Studying the link between coffee and weight loss

The authors of the new study noted that people often drink coffee with sugar, milk, artificial sweeteners, or cream.

They wanted to find out how drinking coffee with sugar, milk, or black coffee without sugar affected weight.

The study, co-conducted by Harvard University and Brigham & Women's Hospital (USA), included a total of 155,218 participants.

All participants were asked to fill out a questionnaire on food and beverage consumption over 5 years.

Researchers collected data on how much coffee participants drank and what they added to their cups.

The results found that drinking 1 cup of black coffee without sugar helps lose about 0.12 kg, according to Healthline .

Conversely, adding 1 teaspoon of sugar to any food or drink daily increases weight by about 0.09 kg (sweetened condensed milk is also a source of sugar).

The results also found that increasing caffeine intake also helped with weight loss.

Scientists have concluded that although increasing coffee intake helps with weight loss, adding just 1 teaspoon of sugar negates the effect.

Experts say coffee can aid weight loss by stimulating calorie burning or suppressing appetite. It also helps boost metabolism, including improving insulin sensitivity and glucose metabolism, which can contribute to weight loss.

Black coffee without sugar can help you lose weight because it contains much fewer calories.

People often drink coffee with sugar, milk, sweeteners, or cream. If you add these to your daily cup of coffee and drink several cups a day, you can take in a lot of extra calories just from drinking coffee.
