Da Lat is at risk of losing its title of UNESCO Creative City of Music.

On July 11, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Lam Dong province said that the implementation of maintaining the title of UNESCO Creative City in the field of music in Da Lat is facing many difficulties and shortcomings.

The reason is that the title of Creative City in the field of music is for Da Lat city, which no longer exists.

According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Lam Dong province, when joining the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, it must commit to implementing local-level initiatives such as: musical heritage of the future; music training and linkage programs; building and strengthening the city's network of cultural and creative spaces; and activities to encourage musical creativity.

In addition, according to the plan, the locality must implement three international initiatives (including the Southeast Asian gong harmony; the sound of the great forest program; Lang Biang International Music Festival). The programs must be completed in 2027. If the above commitments are not fully implemented, UNESCO will remove them from the network.

Since 2021, Da Lat has begun the pre-feasibility assessment process and consulted with many stakeholders to determine the areas the city will register to participate in. In mid-2023, the People's Committee of Da Lat City sent a letter and documents to the United Nations Educational , Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) requesting approval for Da Lat to join the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in 2023.

On the occasion of World Cities Day (October 31, 2023), Da Lat and Hoi An, along with 53 other cities around the world, officially joined the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN).

After Hanoi became a UNESCO Creative City of Design in 2019, Vietnam simultaneously had a Creative City of Music and a Creative City of Crafts and Folk Arts.
