Risk of dike overflow in Nghe An

On the afternoon of September 23, speaking with Dan Tri reporter, Mr. Nguyen Huu Ha, Vice Chairman of Hung Nguyen District People's Committee, said: "It has been raining heavily for many days, the river water has risen rapidly, so the Hung Dao dike is at risk of overflowing. The Hung Dao dike is nearly 2km long and is under construction. The water is almost overflowing, so the district and commune are implementing solutions to prevent the dike from overflowing."

Continuous heavy rain since September 22 has caused the Lam Tra River in Hung Dao commune to rise rapidly.

As of this morning (September 23), the Hung Dao dike is at risk of overflowing. The river water has almost reached the top of the dike, while it is still raining heavily.

Faced with this situation, from 5am on September 23, Hung Nguyen district implemented solutions to save the dike. The district mobilized 3 excavators to build a dam to prevent overflow; assigned forces to be on standby to handle the incident, not allowing people to pass through.

If this dike line overflows, it will affect and cause flooding in hamlets 5, 6, and 7 of Hung Dao commune. Currently, people have been informed and advised to raise their properties to avoid damage due to flooding.

Mr. Le Huy Khoa, Chairman of Hung Dao Commune People's Committee, shared: "The commune has mobilized forces, hamlet chiefs, police, military , and mass organizations to focus on checking and counting households in need of support to raise their assets higher; in case of dike overflow or breakage, we will focus on supporting and evacuating people to a safe place."

It is known that in 2022, this dike section was broken due to high water levels. The dike is being upgraded and repaired. The break point in 2022 is about 800m from the location of the dike at risk of overflow.
