Vietnam's No. 1 badminton player Nguyen Thuy Linh (photo) has reached world number 18 for the first time in her career and is full of opportunities to conquer a higher ranking.

In the latest rankings of the Badminton World Federation (BWF), Nguyen Thuy Linh rose 2 places, from 20th to 18th in the world. This is Thuy Linh's highest ranking ever, since reaching 20th in the world in 2023.

Notably, Thuy Linh has the highest ranking in her career in the context of not competing internationally for 2 consecutive weeks: not participating in the Japan Open last week and the China Open this week. The 2 tennis players who were ranked above, Hojmark Kjaersfeldt (Denmark) and Busanan Ongbamrungphan (Thailand), have dropped in points and are ranked 19th and 20th.

With a total accumulated score of 49,550 points, Thuy Linh is only 2,684 points behind the world's 15th ranked tennis player Pusarla Venkata Sindhu (India). Therefore, the 27-year-old tennis player from Phu Tho promises to soon conquer a new milestone in her career.

By not participating in the China Open 2025, Thuy Linh will lose 5,400 points accumulated from this tournament last year. That is also the reason why the higher the ranking, the harder the athletes have to protect their achievements, otherwise they will have points deducted and be demoted.

After the success of the runner-up title in the women's singles at the recent Canada Open 2025 badminton tournament, Nguyen Thuy Linh returned to the training routine in Bac Ninh .
