On September 18, in the capital Minsk of Belarus, Professor, Academician Le Truong Giang - Vice President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) was awarded the certificate and symbol of Academician of the International Association of Academies of Sciences (IAAS).
President of IAAS, Academician of the Belarusian Academy of Sciences Vladimir Gusakov respectfully presented prestigious certificates to Vietnamese scientists at the ceremony taking place within the framework of the 38th session of IAAS.
IAAS Academician is a title given to a small number of outstanding scientists who have a leading role and great influence in the international scientific community. From its inception in 2019 to the 37th Session in 2024, IAAS has elected 54 Academicians from thousands of outstanding scientists of its member organizations.
With the honor of Professor and Academician Le Truong Giang, Vietnam now has two scientists holding this title (Professor and Academician Chau Van Minh - President of VAST elected in 2019). This is not only an honor for the individual scientist but also a testament to the maturity and increasingly deep international integration of Vietnamese science in the international arena.
Professor, Academician Le Truong Giang is an expert in the fields of chemical research such as analytical chemistry, environmental chemistry, food toxicology, and optimization. He has chaired and participated in many research projects of high fundamental value and practical application, from modeling chemical reaction kinetics to developing technologies for treating organic substances that are difficult to decompose in the environment, controlling toxins in food; has published hundreds of scientific works in prestigious international journals, which are highly appreciated by the scientific community and have a wide academic influence.
With a solid academic foundation and experience working in an international environment, in his current position, Professor, Academician Le Truong Giang has directly directed and led strategic research cooperation programs between VAST and many prestigious research organizations in the world such as the French National Center for Scientific Research, the French Institute for Development Research, the Korean National Research Foundation, and the Japan Association for the Promotion of Science.
In particular, bilateral cooperation programs between VAST and IAAS member organizations not only facilitate academic exchanges and promote joint research and training between scientists from both sides, but also strengthen connections between IAAS members and enrich IAAS activities, contributing to the implementation of IAAS's criteria as a multilateral international organization working together for global science and technology development efforts.
These activities also demonstrate efforts to bring new research results of Vietnam to the world and affirm the contribution, integration and position of Vietnamese science in the international arena.
In the context of science and technology being the key driving force for the country's sustainable development, international recognition is an affirmation of a team of Vietnamese scientists with sufficient stature and research capacity to contribute to the country's development and participate deeply in the global scientific community.
This IAAS Academician title is a common honor for VAST, a clear testament to a generation of Vietnamese scientists - both capable of in-depth research and international connections, ready to contribute their intelligence in the era of national development./.
