Identifying the new generation of drugs entering schools

On the afternoon of December 14, Education and Times Newspaper in collaboration with Chu Van An Secondary School organized a training program on skills to recognize and prevent "new generation" drugs from entering schools. The training session was attended by Journalist Trieu Ngoc Lam - Editor-in-Chief of Education and Times Newspaper; the Board of Directors and teachers of Chu Van An Secondary School.

At the training session, Major Nguyen Van Hoan - Deputy Head of the Specialized Team, Drug Crime Investigation Police Department ( Quang Ninh Police) gave specific instructions to identify some new generation drugs that are showing signs of infiltrating the school environment such as: mixed drugs "disguised" as functional foods, "milk tea" drugs, "mango juice" drugs, happy coffee, marinated foods, tongue charms or laughing gas, American weed and electronic cigarettes.

The workshop analyzed the reasons why students are easily lured and enticed to use drugs. It clearly identified three reasons: laxity in family management of children; lack of healthy playgrounds in society and the psychological characteristics of adolescents in the process of development. In addition, the workshop also pointed out some tricks that drug traffickers and organizers of illegal drug use often use to lure and force students to use drugs and participate in drug trafficking. At the same time, it proposed some measures to prevent drugs in schools and the responsibilities of students.

Representatives of the Drug Crime Investigation Agency also pointed out the signs of students illegally using new generation drugs from changes in students' psychology. Teachers need to pay attention to students' academic performance when they show signs of truancy, falling asleep in class, being irritable, tired... In addition, pay attention to whether students often gather in groups, participate in many secret groups or spend a lot of money, borrow from friends.

Journalist Trieu Ngoc Lam suggested that schools have more activities on drug prevention.

At the seminar, Journalist Trieu Ngoc Lam - Editor-in-Chief of Education and Times Newspaper shared: "During my work, I have personally seen and heard many heartbreaking cases about the harmful effects of drugs. Based on my experience, teachers should organize a writing contest to learn about and identify the harmful effects of new generation drugs." Journalist Trieu Ngoc Lam suggested that schools should soon organize a writing contest and said that he would ask the Ministry of Education and Training to consider awarding certificates of merit to students who participated and won prizes.

In addition, Journalist Trieu Ngoc Lam also suggested that Chu Van An Secondary School launch a letter-writing campaign for friends both inside and outside the school. “Students will write letters to their friends, advise them, and tell them about the harmful effects of drugs. When writing, they will learn and master the skills of preventing the harmful effects of drugs,” Journalist Trieu Ngoc Lam shared.

In addition, the Editor-in-Chief of the Education and Times Newspaper also suggested that schools establish small anti-drug clubs with the task of understanding the situation of students in the class through their behavior, discipline or habits of using strange objects and foods. At the same time, integrate knowledge related to anti-drugs in schools into emulation movements such as wall newspaper activities. "I believe that with the flexibility and understanding of students' psychology of teachers, we will achieve the greatest goal of a healthy environment in schools. This is my dream, the dream of teachers and the dream of the whole society" - Editor-in-Chief Trieu Ngoc Lam emphasized.

On behalf of the school, Ms. Hanh Nguyen thanked Journalist Trieu Ngoc Lam for his comments and said that she will soon launch competitions and training on new methods of preventing drugs from entering schools, drawn from the training session.
