Many businesses are sitting on mountains of cash.

(Dan Tri) - Mobile World, PV GAS, Hoa Phat,FPT and 2 businesses associated with billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong own thousands of billions of dong in idle money.

By the end of 2024, many businesses had large amounts of cash and deposits and earned high profits. Mobile World Investment Corporation (stock code: MWG) had VND 5,697 billion in cash and cash equivalents, more than VND 28,524 billion in short-term financial investments. Total idle money was VND 34,221 billion, an increase of nearly VND 10,000 billion compared to the beginning of the year.

Of which, the company deposited more than VND24,244 billion in banks, mostly for short terms. On the last day of the year, the company recorded interest on deposits of more than VND1,837 billion, meaning an average of more than VND5 billion per day.

On the other hand, the company has no long-term financial loans. Short-term debt by the end of 2024 is VND 27,300 billion, up 43% compared to the beginning of the year. These are short-term unsecured loans with floating interest rates to supplement working capital. For the whole year, the company has to pay VND 1,137 billion in interest expenses.

Not only Mobile World , Vietnam Gas Corporation (PV GAS - code: GAS) also owns cash and deposits of VND33,061 billion, equivalent to about USD1.3 billion. This figure accounts for 40% of GAS's total assets. However, this figure has decreased by more than VND7,692 billion in one year. The bank deposit has brought the company VND1,466 billion in interest, down 28% compared to the previous year.

Two giants associated with billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong, Vinhomes (stock code: VHM) and Vingroup (stock code: VIC), also have large amounts of money. At Vinhomes, by the end of 2024, the company had VND28,991 billion in cash and deposits, double that of the beginning of the year. Meanwhile, Vingroup had VND49,262 billion, up 41% compared to the beginning of the year.

Billionaire Tran Dinh Long's Hoa Phat Group (stock code: HPG) also revealed a "not small" amount of money. At the end of 2024, the steel company had VND25,863 billion in idle money, down 25% compared to the beginning of the year. Of which, VND21,881 billion was in bank deposits.

Technology giant FPT Corporation (stock code: FPT) also has 31,100 billion VND in idle money, up 28% compared to the beginning of the year. Recorded deposit interest during the year was nearly 1,201 billion VND, equivalent to about 3.3 billion VND/day.
