Women of Son Thuy commune actively participate in preserving and promoting traditional weaving.

Coming to Chung Son village, it is not difficult to see the images of women working on looms, diligently weaving brocades with many colors. According to the elderly women in the village, the traditional weaving profession of the Thai people in Son Thuy commune has existed for a long time, and has been preserved and promoted by the villagers to this day. The products made not only demonstrate the ingenuity of Thai women but also spread the love of their ancestors' profession to the younger generation in the commune.

For Ms. Lo Thi Mui, Chung Son village weaving traditional costumes and daily necessities by hand not only satisfies her passion for the craft but also is a meaningful way to preserve the cultural identity of her people. With this in mind, over the years, Ms. Mui has actively taught many women in and outside the village how to weave brocade fabrics. Talking to us, Ms. Mui shared: "Since I was a child, watching my grandmother and mother weave colorful brocade dresses made me love it and want to learn the craft. At the age of 15, I was able to skillfully weave traditional costumes for myself and some relatives in my family. Currently, due to cultural exchange, a part of the youth is not interested in brocade weaving. Realizing my responsibility to preserve and promote traditional values, I have actively taught the craft to the women in the village. At the same time, I take advantage of my free time to weave products for sale, increasing my family's income. In the coming time, I will invest in improving techniques, boosting production, bringing products to the market, contributing to preserving and promoting the beauty of traditional costumes of my people."

Currently, Son Thuy commune has about 100 households engaged in brocade weaving. To preserve and promote traditional cultural values, the People's Committee of Son Thuy commune has issued a plan to preserve and promote traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities, including brocade weaving. At the same time, promote propaganda to raise people's awareness of the importance of preserving and promoting traditional weaving. Mobilize artisans who are knowledgeable about brocade weaving to pass on the craft to the younger generation in the commune. From 2024 to now, Son Thuy commune has coordinated with functional agencies to open 2 brocade weaving training classes with 60 participants. Currently, students of the class have mastered weaving and invested in buying looms to create products to sell on the market, increasing income and improving life.

Mr. Pham Ngoc Thanh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Son Thuy Commune, said: Nowadays, Thai ethnic women often wear modern costumes that are convenient for work and production. However, on important occasions of the Thai people such as Tet, festivals, and important local events, women wear traditional costumes made from brocade fabrics to participate. In the coming time, Son Thuy Commune will continue to propagate and mobilize people to actively preserve and promote the brocade weaving profession. Create all favorable conditions for households engaged in brocade weaving to access preferential capital sources to develop production. Focus on establishing cooperatives to gather members for large-scale production, creating jobs for local workers. However, to do this, it is necessary to have the attention of all levels and functional branches in supporting investment in production and finding output for products.
