Teachers, the ones who guide generations of students to adulthood

Education is always the focus of public opinion. On November 20 - Vietnam Teachers' Day, the "soul engineers" receive more attention from society. Flowers, compliments, congratulations, gifts... have become "customs" so it is normal. What is not normal is that those images of gratitude quickly fade away in the midst of gossip. Could it be that individual "mistakes" from somewhere have been combined to form a gloomy picture?

Criticism is often disguised as constructive criticism. Is that fair when students are improving every day thanks to the care of teachers? Please do not forget the schools in remote areas, mountainous areas, and islands. There, teachers are spreading knowledge in the midst of hardship. Although in the hearts of the people, they are truly good teachers, none of them dream of the titles of People's Teacher or Excellent Teacher.

The difficulty is how to have inspirational teachers.

No one is born to be a teacher. But as a teacher, you must live and teach in a way that is worthy of the respect for teachers that the people always preserve. You must live virtuously, be pure, and have exemplary behavior in order to teach good and right things. Be careful with "young trees". Because white chalk written on a blackboard can be easily erased. But what teachers write on students' souls will remain strong for life. Unfortunately, in today's educational environment, although not popular, there are still "educational officials" who are "talented" in being arrogant, overcharging, and abusing power; and teachers who have a "specialty" in hurting students.

The history of our country is not short of teachers with bright minds and pure hearts like Chu Van An, Nguyen Binh Khiem, Le Quy Don... Those famous teachers did not go through... teacher training schools. The depth of the nation's profound culture "trained" them. Every year, teacher training schools "mould" thousands of teachers, which is not difficult. The difficulty is how to have teachers who know how to inspire learning, who know how to use their tolerance and virtue to touch the hearts of their students. Those are good teachers, and a good teacher can be more than a load of books.

Nothing can replace the teacher in the role of shaping personality, nurturing the soul, and enlightening the intelligence of students.

I once heard a strange story about an 11th grade student at X school. He didn't like this school because they forced students to participate in too many mass competitions, and regular school hours were cut short. Students who were assigned to take the exams also found it hard to refuse. Even though he didn't like it, he was praised every week at the flag ceremony. When his friends asked, he explained: If you don't like it but can't escape it, you have to adapt. Don't use that as a reason to be dissatisfied or spoiled. I respect him. Not everyone can change their perspective and way of thinking to transform their circumstances.

In the morning, looking out the alley, I often see parents taking their children to school with a frown on their faces. The child eats something in a hurry on the bus. The child's eyes are a bit sad. The road to school lacks joy. The afternoon also doesn't seem relaxing. Hundreds of parents wait for their children in front of the school gate with wide eyes. Before they get home, the parents already "check": How many points did they get today? The road home is quiet with no laughter. I think building a happy school is not only the school's and teachers' business, but also the parents'. Adults are pushing their children to study until they are old and tired. Studying with gritted teeth is beneficial, but it is a toothless benefit. Studying by cramming is like using a basket to scoop water. After graduating, how much life skills will they have?

A happy school needs the cooperation of school, family and society.

The teacher's place is still the podium

Although there are still many difficulties and shortages, teachers always encourage each other: Our place is still the podium. As for how much the quality of life "increases", we still have to wait as we have waited before. Waiting is a quality, also a habit of a self-respecting teacher. While carrying out the heavy task of educational reform, teachers are also eagerly waiting for a reform of teachers' lives.

Vietnamese Teachers' Day, November 20, evokes many emotions and thoughts. Schools are entering a digital transformation, the pinnacle of which is robots and artificial intelligence. But that is just a convenience. Nothing can replace the teacher in the role of shaping personality, nurturing the soul, and enlightening the mind of many generations of students.
