These days, farmers in Dien Hoang commune are urgently harvesting winter peanuts to avoid sprouting tubers and rodent damage. The good news is that this year's peanut crop is good, with an average yield of 110 kg of dry peanuts per sao, higher than last winter crop.

Ms. Le Thi Hao is harvesting 2 sao of peanuts and shares: “Starting to sow in August, thanks to favorable weather and careful care, the peanut area of ​​my family has developed well, evenly and yielded concentrated harvests. These past few days, my whole family has been working hard to harvest, excited because the peanuts have a good harvest. One sao also brings in 4-4.5 million VND, much higher than growing corn .”

Dien Hoang commune is one of the concentrated peanut production areas of Dien Chau district. In the winter crop, farmers mainly produce peanut seeds to proactively prepare for the spring peanut crop - the main crop of the year, and at the same time supply seeds to the provincial market. This year, the whole commune produces 78 hectares of peanuts, mainly L14 peanuts and red peanuts.

Mr. Nguyen Tan - Chairman of Dien Hoang Commune People's Committee said: Up to this point, the whole commune has harvested about 2/3 of the winter peanut area. Right from the beginning of the season, the commune has directed farmers to comply with the crop calendar, strengthen care, and prevent pests and diseases, so the yield is much higher than the previous season. This year, Dien Hoang harvested 160 tons of winter peanuts, much higher than previous years, the peanuts are old, firm, ensuring quality for seeds for the 2023 spring crop.

In the fields of Dien Hung commune, farmers are also busy harvesting the winter peanuts. As a highly safe crop in the winter, peanuts account for 1/3 of the commune's total area, with 70 hectares. Like the farmers of Dien Hoang commune, the people of Dien Hung commune are excited because the winter peanuts are in season.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy - Ngoc My village said: "This crop, my family planted 1.5 sao of peanuts. During the production process, my neighbors and I applied the technique of covering with plastic, not only preventing grass from growing but also preventing erosion during heavy rains, keeping the plants growing well. This year, the peanut crop was good, so my family harvested nearly 200 kg of dried peanuts. The family only kept a few sao for seeds and sold the rest to traders.

In the 2023 winter crop, Dien Chau district continues to orient production development towards commodities, quality, efficiency, enhancing the value chain and sustainable development. Accordingly, the whole district stabilizes the area with nearly 4,200 hectares, of which peanut area is 850 hectares. Winter peanuts are planted early and are mainly grown in coastal sandy soil areas with L14 and red peanut varieties. Up to this point, Dien Chau farmers have harvested 2/3 of the area with an average yield of about 1 quintal of dry peanuts/sao in the whole district. Thus, this winter crop, Dien Chau farmers supply the market with about 1,700 tons of peanut seeds.

Mr. Le The Hieu - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dien Chau said: The agricultural sector always encourages farmers to produce peanuts in the autumn-winter crop. Growing peanuts in the autumn-winter crop is not difficult and does not require too much technique, just need to prevent damage from rats and have a full care and fertilization regime. For this crop, from planting to harvesting is about 100 days, suitable for natural conditions, climate and crop production schedule in the locality. Proactively producing peanut seeds will contribute to reducing the use of seeds bought floating on the market.
