"Sprint" on the Vung Ang - Bung highway

(Baohatinh.vn) - With only 6 days left until the opening of the Vung Ang - Bung expressway connecting Ha Tinh and Quang Tri, investors, contractors, and consultants are sticking to the construction site to bring the project to the finish line on schedule.

At 12:05 on August 12, amidst the intense heat and scorching Lao winds, at bridge No. 1 of the Vung Ang - Bung expressway project, dozens of engineers and workers were diligently laying asphalt concrete on the final spans of the bridge.

Bridge No. 1 across the valley connecting two hills in Ky Hoa commune, Ha Tinh province is almost the last item before the Vung Ang - Bung expressway is opened and put into operation. Construction in the area is difficult, complicated and some other objective reasons, the completion time of bridge No. 1 is longer than expected.

As the deadline for completing the entire project is approaching, despite working under the scorching heat, the officers, engineers, and workers of the investor, contractor, and consulting supervisory unit still make efforts to stay at the construction site.

After paving the bridge surface with asphalt concrete, the contractor continues to complete the installation of median strips and construction of expansion joints. 479 Hoa Binh Joint Stock Company - the contractor of bridge No. 1, expects to complete the entire project before the project opens to traffic.

About 7 km from the construction site of Bridge No. 1, the Deo But tunnel project undertaken by Son Hai Group is also rushing to complete the final stages of work. The Deo But tunnel is nearly 1 km long, with a total investment of more than 1,000 billion VND, with a design of 2 tunnels, of which the left tunnel is 716m long, the right tunnel is 840m long, each tunnel is 15m wide and 8m high.

In the investment phase, the right tunnel in the North-South direction will be put into operation first. The left tunnel after drilling has not been put into operation but will be used for search and rescue. However, on July 17, 2025, the Ministry of Construction approved the investment in completing the left tunnel of Deo But tunnel.

Deo But Tunnel and 4 km of main route that Son Hai Group is undertaking to construct have reached 98% of the volume, ensuring the smooth operation of the entire Vung Ang - Bung expressway project. This unit is trying to complete the remaining work.

The Vung Ang - Bung Expressway is 55.34 km long, of which the section passing through Ha Tinh province is 12.9 km long and the section passing through Quang Tri province (formerly Quang Binh province) is 42.44 km long. According to the request of the Government and the Ministry of Construction, the Vung Ang - Bung Expressway will be completed and opened to traffic on August 19.

According to information from Project Management Board 6 (Ministry of Construction) - the investor of Vung Ang - Bung Expressway, up to now, the construction output of the whole project has reached over 98%. The unit is urging contractors and supervision consultants to focus on human resources, machinery and equipment to complete the remaining items, ensuring the opening of traffic on August 19.

The Vung Ang - Bung expressway is 55.34 km long, passing through two provinces: Ha Tinh (12.9 km) and Quang Binh - now Quang Tri (42.44 km), with the starting point intersecting with National Highway 12C, connecting with Ham Nghi - Vung Ang expressway in Ky Tan commune, Ky Anh district, Ha Tinh province, and the end point in Cu Nam commune, Bo Trach district, Quang Tri province, connecting with Bung - Van Ninh expressway.

Vung Ang - Bung Expressway is invested by Project Management Board 6 (Ministry of Construction). The project is divided into 2 construction packages, of which, construction package XL01 is undertaken by Son Hai Group - Vietnam Construction and Import-Export Joint Stock Corporation - Joint Stock Company 484 - Joint Stock Company 369 - Joint Stock Company 479 Hoa Binh, while Phuong Thanh Transport Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company - Lizen Joint Stock Company undertakes construction package XL02. The section through Ha Tinh belongs to construction package XL01.

At the investment phase, the expressway has 4 lanes, no emergency lane, and a number of emergency stops are arranged every 4-5 km/point with a roadbed width of 17 m, and a design speed of 60-90 km/h.
