US President Joe Biden and potential candidate Donald Trump in the 2024 US election

A survey by The Wall Street Journal shows that the percentage of Americans who approve of Mr. Biden as president is at its lowest level since his term began in 2021. This result is similar to recent surveys and is causing concern for the Democratic Party as the US election in 2024 is approaching.

A poll by The Wall Street Journal found that Mr. Trump leads Mr. Biden by 4 points, specifically 47% to 43%. This is the first time a survey has shown that the former US President is ahead in a direct confrontation with Mr. Biden, according to the prestigious American newspaper.

President Biden's son charged with additional tax evasion

With the addition of five third-party and independent candidates, Mr. Trump widened the gap with Mr. Biden to 6 points, at 37% and 31%.

In addition to concerns about age, President Biden is facing obstacles related to the case of his son Hunter Biden being prosecuted on 9 tax charges in California on December 7.

Meanwhile, Mr. Trump is also facing many legal challenges despite continuously leading the race to become the Republican Party's candidate for president next year.

At a fundraising event in California on December 8, President Biden criticized his predecessor Trump for his actions on January 6, 2021, related to the Capitol riot.

"It's despicable. Simply despicable," Mr. Biden told a crowd that included California Governor Gavin Newsom and former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, describing Mr. Trump as standing by while the mob marched on the Capitol and vandalized it, while doing nothing to stop it.

Apart from Mr. Biden, the Democratic Party has no contingency plan for the 2024 US presidential election.

Mr. Biden's speech focused mainly on the topic of Mr. Trump being labeled a threat to democracy, while avoiding mentioning the Hamas-Israel conflict in the Gaza Strip, according to The Guardian on December 10.
