France's health, safety, environment and labor agency (ANSES) has recommended closer monitoring of areas where food giant Nestle extracts mineral water.
The move comes after French authorities discovered signs of bacterial contamination in Nestle's bottled mineral water products. ANSES also confirmed it had received reports of microbiological contamination and sent recommendations to the French Ministry of Health last October, according to Le Monde.
The move by ANSES comes as French prosecutors are investigating allegations that Nestle used illegal treatment methods in the production of bottled mineral water in the country. In 2007, the French government issued a decree requiring that water at its source and during its sale be free of waste contamination, parasites and disease-causing microorganisms.
