On September 7, in the first class of the new school year, only 91/320 students of Nghi Thiet commune (Nghi Loc district, Nghe An ) went to Tien Thiet Secondary School (Nghi Tien commune) to study. Parents brought many of the 229 students who did not go to school to gather in front of the Nghi Thiet Commune People's Committee gate and Nghi Thiet Secondary School ( photo ) to protest the merger of Nghi Thiet Secondary School and Nghi Tien Secondary School (Nghi Tien commune) into the newly built Tien Thiet Secondary School in Nghi Tien commune.

During the day, the government and departments and organizations of Nghi Thiet commune organized a dialogue to encourage parents to send their children to Tien Thiet Secondary School. According to the parents' feedback, Nghi Thiet Secondary School has nearly twice as many students as Nghi Tien Secondary School. When merging schools, Nghi Thiet commune students have to travel 2-4 km, through mountainous areas to reach school, which is unreasonable. Moreover, before the merger, the school and local government did not notify parents and students, causing people to be upset.
Mr. Bui Van Thanh, Chairman of Nghi Thiet Commune People's Committee, said that the policy of merging Nghi Thiet Secondary School with Tien Thiet Secondary School by the education sector and the locality since 2008 aims to concentrate students, invest in facilities and improve teaching quality.
“Right after the policy was announced, the commune government held a meeting with parents whose children were studying at the school, but because so much time has passed, many people think that the commune government did not inform the people. The commune government is also at fault for not holding a meeting with parents before merging the schools,” said Mr. Thanh.
Responding to Thanh Nien reporter, Mr. Nguyen Van Thong, Head of the Department of Education and Training of Nghi Loc district, said that Nghi Thiet commune has more students but was not chosen to build a new school because through actual survey, the land here is too narrow, not enough area to build a school. Tien Thiet Secondary School has just been built, located on the border between the two communes, balancing the number of students going to school.
