According to a survey by the Department of Children ( Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs ) in 2022, Vietnamese children use social networks for 5-7 hours a day. Summer is also the time when children have more time to go online. With the increasing rate and frequency of internet use, children now need to be equipped with essential skills and knowledge to self-select healthy information, suitable for their age.

Mr. Marc Woo - Managing Director in charge of the Vietnam market, Google Asia - Pacific said that during the summer vacation, children have more time to interact with the internet and smart devices.

YouTube is one of the internet applications used by many children in Vietnam.

"Currently, 97.4% of Vietnamese children use the internet at home and 52.8% said they have access to the internet at school," Mr. Woo shared at the "Safe Online Summer Fun" event in Hanoi on the morning of May 31.

The program "Safe online summer fun - I'm safer with Google" is a playground aimed at improving skills in using the internet safely and effectively, equipping parents with knowledge to guide their children's learning and entertainment content in the upcoming summer.

As children increasingly access the internet at home and at school, Vietnamese parents are also more concerned about their children's online safety. According to a 2023 Google report, up to 64.1% of parents actively seek to learn technology to teach their children about this issue when participating in the internet environment.

Over the past two years, Google has worked with partner agencies and schools to raise awareness of online safety for teachers, making them a force to accompany children and their parents. With the "Safer with Google" program alone, implemented by Google in collaboration with the Center for Family Health Counseling and Community Development (CFC) in Vietnam since 2021, more than one million students and 7,443 teachers in 1,115 primary schools across the country have been reached through in-person and online training sessions to help them improve their knowledge, be ready to participate in a safe and confident online environment.

Comprehensive coordination between teachers, parents and students also contributes to changing communication in each family in a positive direction. Before 2021, up to 1/3 of parents surveyed said they had never talked to their children about internet safety. By 2023, nearly 88% of Vietnamese parents easily discussed this topic with their children.
