Last year, tiny Thanh Hang received a love message from a guy 14 years younger than her. She didn't dare reply, afraid of losing a close friendship of more than 10 years.
From haters to best friends
After the wedding in Hanoi, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hang (Thanh Hang, born in 1978, from Hanoi) and Mr. Ha Van Dong (born in 1992, from Hai Duong ) held a wedding announcement ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City on December 20.
Thanh Hang and her younger sister Thanh Ha are famous with the nickname of tiny twin singers. Hang is 1.24m tall, Ha is 1.25m tall, both possessing delicate faces, younger than their age.
More than 10 years ago, the two met Dong (a blind singer) while filming a music video for the group Doi Rac Dep. After that, the three of them continued to film and record several other programs together.

At first, Ms. Hang did not like Mr. Dong, even hated him. Because she found him talkative and often teased people.
After setting the record for the smallest singing duo in Vietnam in 2016, Thanh Hang and Thanh Ha were invited by the group Ngoc Trong Tim to perform in the US.
This trip had Mr. Dong and some other artists participating. Thanks to that, Ms. Hang and Mr. Dong became closer and realized many things in common.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Ms. Hang lost her job. At that time, Mr. Dong taught her how to sell products online. They were already close, but now they are even closer.
“Because I am older than Dong, I am not afraid to scold my junior. On the contrary, he likes to tease me that I am a shrewish older sister.
We often contacted and met each other. However, neither of us realized that our friendship had blossomed into love.
Dong was the one who discovered his feelings for me first. His family also secretly helped us get together,” Ms. Hang shared.
Despite the 14-year age difference, Hang and Dong are a perfect match.
Continuing his wife's words, Mr. Dong said: "I originally liked a free life and did not plan to get married. But, one rainy day in June 2023, I found myself gradually sinking into loneliness.
I asked myself what I was trying to achieve every day in life. And then, I realized I needed a home.”
He found his heart was set on Hang but he didn't dare to confess. He was afraid that if his confession failed, he would lose their long-time friendship.
Sweet fruit of sisterly love
After much hesitation, Dong asked someone to send the first message, then mustered up the courage to text him his love. As soon as he sent the message, he quickly hung up, not daring to wait for a response.
Receiving the confession, Ms. Hang did not reply immediately but thought for a long time. After a week, she chose to respond ambiguously. For Mr. Dong, this answer was enough to start a love affair.
Since the transition from friendship to love, Ms. Hang felt a little more shy. Meanwhile, Mr. Dong seized the opportunity, continuously showing his concern and expressing his feelings.
When they started their relationship, they faced geographical distance, one from the South and the other from the North. However, Dong did not hesitate to fly back and forth to have more time to see his lover.
He thought of many things to do together and talk to her. He cared for his lover with simple messages like: wishing her a good morning, wishing her good night, calling her at noon to ask if she had eaten yet...
At first, Ms. Hang was very concerned about the age gap. She clearly expressed her concerns and Mr. Dong quickly cleared up the obstacle.
He showed her that age difference is not important. If love is big enough, both will proactively adjust and avoid being out of sync.
Both are happy to find the right partner.
“When talking about the 14-year age gap, people will see a big difference. However, Hang looks much younger than her age. If my wife didn’t introduce her age, many people would guess we are the same age,” Dong proudly said.
Their love was ripe, and they planned to get married. When they heard the news, the groom's family happily supported them, but her family was a bit worried.
Ms. Hang shared: “Some people think that because Dong is blind, he cannot work or take care of himself. However, I am close to him and have witnessed his journey of success.
He moved to Ho Chi Minh City and lived alone for more than 10 years. During this time, he cleaned the house, went to the market, cooked, and did business himself...
Knowing his efforts, my family felt more secure and accepted our wedding."
In November 2024, Ms. Hang happily walked with Mr. Dong at their wedding in Hanoi . Although their wedding was not lavish or romantic, when looking into each other's eyes, they both understood what they needed from their partner.
