Ukrainian army reduces Russia's attack capability in the East

Speaking in his evening report after a meeting with military commanders, Mr Zelenskiy said Ukrainian forces had made every effort "for the resilience of the brigades".

"At this time, the Ukrainian Defense Forces have reduced the offensive capabilities of the occupying side in the Donetsk region."

The situation remains "extremely difficult with heavy fighting taking place every day" in two eastern battle zones around the cities of Pokrovsk and Kurakhove, he said.

Mr. Zelenskiy also added that Ukraine's campaign in the Kursk region (Southern Russia) had succeeded in its goal of forcing the Russian army to divert its forces from the battlefield in Eastern Ukraine.

He also said the capture of Russian soldiers had improved Ukraine's "exchange fund" for prisoners of war in exchange negotiations with Moscow.

"We have successfully attracted up to 40,000 soldiers to this front. Active measures are still underway."

Mr Zelenskiy also spoke about a Russian attack on a nursing home in the Sumy region of northern Ukraine that left one person dead.
