Quang Nam quits V-League: VFF and VPF have a headache

Quang Nam Club suddenly stopped operating and disbanded, causing difficulties for VFF and VPF when the 2025/26 season just drew lots to schedule matches and was about to start.

On the afternoon of July 21, the leaders of Quang Nam Club suddenly announced that the team would not participate in V-League 2025/26, instead merging withSHB Da Nang Club. With Quang Nam withdrawing from the tournament, V-League next season currently has only 13 participating teams.

Representatives of VFF and VPF said they have not received any documents from Quang Nam Club. However, Mr. Nguyen Van Phu - General Secretary of VFF said that VFF certainly has a "firefighting" plan when Quang Nam Club disbands the team that does not participate in V-League 2025/26.

As for VPF, this company just held a draw ceremony for the V-League 2025/26 schedule a few days ago. It is known that some VPF leaders are busy working abroad, but have also grasped the situation and will have an urgent meeting to resolve it.

"As of the afternoon of July 21, we have not received any official notice from Quang Nam Club. However, VPF will ask for VFF's opinion to find a solution," said a VPF representative.

According to plan, the 2025/26 season will kick off on August 9 with the Super Cup match between Nam Dinh Steel Blue vs CAHN. V-League 2025/26 will kick off nearly a week later.

Currently, there are two options that VFF and VPF can consider, which are to keep the 13 V-League teams after Quang Nam withdrew from the tournament, or to promote the team ranked 2nd in the First Division last season, Binh Phuoc, to replace them. However, the above options must be approved by VFF and VPF in the upcoming meeting.

Head coach Van Sy Son is currently studying for a Pro Coaching license in Japan. He has just helped Quang Nam successfully stay in the league in the penultimate round of V-League 2024/25, and does not think that the team will lose its name on the football map.

Club Executive Director Nguyen Trong said that all office staff, coaching staff, first team players, youth athletes and coaches will move to Da Nang to merge with SHB Da Nang.

However, a player said he did not know where to go or where to return. "We were informed by the club's leadership to contact and find a new team if needed. Those who stay will be merged into SHB Da Nang Club, then restructure the personnel to prepare for the new season," said a Quang Nam player.
