Rare otter 'strayed' into border guard barracks

On August 2, the Border Guard of Dong Thap province said it had handed over a small-clawed otter weighing about 3.5 kg to the Center for Cultivation, Research and Processing of Medicinal Herbs of Military Region 9 (Dong Tam Snake Farm).

On the morning of July 31, officers and soldiers of the Border Guard of Dong Thap province were cleaning the barracks in Quarter 12B, Go Cong Ward, Dong Thap Province when they discovered a strange animal hiding under a tree in the unit's grounds.

When capturing it, the soldiers realized that it was a small-clawed otter that had strayed into the unit, so they contacted and completed the procedures to hand it over to Dong Tam Snake Farm for continued care.

It is known that the small-clawed otter has the scientific name Aonyx Cinereus , is in the endangered, rare group IB, and is in the red book group that is strictly preserved.
