These last days of October, Sam Son suddenly became bustling, when the coastal city was honored to be chosen as the venue to hold the 70th Anniversary Ceremony of welcoming compatriots, cadres, soldiers and students from the South to the North. “Special guests” who had set foot in Sam Son exactly 7 decades ago, had the opportunity to return to witness with their own eyes the “transformation” of this arduous land, but were welcomed with warm affection.

The sea square and festival landscape axis are attractive destinations for tourists when coming to Sam Son.

To commemorate the glorious historical milestone 70 years ago, with the attention of the Central Government, the province and especially the Association of Former Students of the South who gathered in the North, at the place that welcomed the compatriots, cadres, soldiers and students of the South who gathered in the North that day (Cua Hoi, Quang Tien ward today), the Memorial Area of ​​compatriots, cadres, soldiers and students of the South who gathered in the North was started to be built, with the highlight being the impressive "Reunification Ship" monument. And for Sam Son in particular, Thanh Hoa in general, this will also be a "red address" to educate the revolutionary tradition and the affection between the North and the South for the young generation today and tomorrow. At the same time, it is a place to "return" to recall an unforgettable historical moment of the generation of cadres, soldiers, compatriots of the South who gathered in the North and especially the Southern students in the North.

As for Sam Son, the historical event 70 years ago has become a milestone in the development process, a proud "fulcrum" of the tradition of a land of hardship but bravery, hardship but affection. From there, the Party Committee, government and people of Sam Son today continue to strive to overcome all difficulties and challenges to rise strongly, becoming a promising young tourist city. From coastal fishing villages, Sam Son has now become a city under the province, a tourist center of the North. At the same time, strive to become a smart, modern, attractive and friendly coastal tourist city by 2030; and by 2045, a unique and leading tourist and entertainment city in the country.

On the development journey, especially in the past 10 years, Sam Son has achieved many impressive achievements. In particular, in the period of 2015-2020, the city has been proactive and creative in organizing and implementing tasks, completing and exceeding 27/30 main targets. The economy has grown strongly, reaching an average of 16.8%/year, the scale of production value in 2020 is 4.73 times that of 2010; capital mobilization for development investment in 2020 is 10.5 times that of 2010. Infrastructure is invested in a synchronous and modern direction. A number of new urban areas and many large projects have been completed and put into use, changing the urban appearance. Sam Son has been expanded in both administrative boundaries and development space, and is recognized as a city under the province. Sam Son tourism brand has been upgraded and honored as one of the top 5 tourist areas in Vietnam (2017). In 2023, the city welcomed nearly 8 million visitors for sightseeing and relaxation, the highest ever. From the beginning of 2024 up to now, the city has welcomed 8.58 million visitors, an increase of 11.6% over the same period, reaching 100.9% of the plan; reaching 16.8 million visitor days, an increase of 14.6% over the same period, reaching 102.1% of the plan; revenue reaching 16,482 billion VND, an increase of 19.7% over the same period, reaching 104.8% of the plan.

Also from the beginning of 2024 to now, the State budget revenue is estimated at 2,054 billion VND, equal to 271% of the provincial estimate, equal to 98% of the estimate assigned by the City People's Council. The urban appearance continues to change thanks to major projects being implemented. In particular, many important projects have been completed and put into use, such as the Sea Square project, the city festival landscape axis; SunWorld Water Park project; new working headquarters of the City Party Committee, People's Council, City People's Committee, City Fatherland Front and other organizations and many other important projects. At the same time, many important projects such as Nam Song Ma Avenue (phase 2) have been started...

Economic development not only helps to renew the urban appearance, but also contributes to improving the material and spiritual life of the people. Social security policies are fully and promptly implemented. The city currently has 400 poor households, accounting for 1.34% and 762 near-poor households, accounting for 2.55%. In addition, national defense - security, social order and safety are ensured. Party building and political system work have changed positively...

Sam Son is a land with a rich cultural and historical tradition; a coastal tourist city with its own brand and identity, with many unique and outstanding tourism values. To effectively exploit that potential and outstanding advantages, the Standing Committee of Thanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee issued Resolution No. 07-NQ/TU on building and developing Sam Son City by 2030, with a vision to 2045. In particular, the goal is to strive by 2030 to build and develop Sam Son into a national key tourist city, an ideal destination for domestic and international tourists.

With the special orientation and attention of the province, the Party Committee and the government of Sam Son City have been determined and resolute in their leadership and administration to effectively implement the tasks and solutions set out in Resolution No. 07-NQ/TU. In particular, focusing on strengthening management and implementing well the planning, building Sam Son City into a smart, modern city. Exploiting and maximizing the potential and advantages to improve the growth quality and competitiveness of the city's economy. Promoting administrative reform, strongly improving the investment and business environment; implementing well the work of site clearance, especially large and key projects; attracting and effectively using resources for socio-economic development. Developing urban technical infrastructure and social infrastructure associated with smart city development. Strengthening links with districts, towns and cities inside and outside the province, gradually expanding and improving the effectiveness of international cooperation. Pay attention to comprehensive development of cultural and social fields, ensuring harmony with economic development. Strengthen management of natural resources and environment, adapt to climate change. Ensure national defense - security, social order and safety, create favorable conditions for socio-economic development. Focus on building a clean, strong Party and political system from the city to the grassroots, operating effectively and efficiently.

With the above-mentioned tasks and solutions being vigorously implemented, it is expected that by 2030, Sam Son will become a smart, modern, attractive, and friendly coastal tourist city; worthy of the patriotic tradition and deep affection that the Southern people in the North always entrust to this land.
