The entire Noi Bai Expressway is about to be overhauled.

TPO - Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) has just completed the signing of the contract to select a contractor to repair the damaged Noi Bai - Lao Cai Expressway. The contractors will carry out the overhaul simultaneously at the end of February.

The Noi Bai - Lao Cai Expressway has a total length of 245km, passing through 5 provinces and cities: Hanoi, Vinh Phuc, Phu Tho, Yen Bai and Lao Cai. The route has a scale of 4 lanes in the Noi Bai - Yen Bai section; 2 lanes in the Yen Bai - Lao Cai section.

After more than 10 years of operation, Noi Bai - Lao Cai Expressway has been under great pressure from the increasing traffic volume, especially heavy trucks, causing many sections of the route to be damaged and degraded. Although VEC has carried out many repairs and improvements to the road surface and traffic safety system, there are still rough and degraded sections that have not been thoroughly handled.

Faced with this situation, at the end of February, after completing the contract signing for the repair packages for damaged road surfaces and traffic safety systems with VEC, contractors will mobilize human resources, machinery and equipment to carry out the construction simultaneously. This is a large-scale overhaul to repair the road surface and upgrade the traffic safety system along the entire route.

VEC representative said that in order to meet transportation needs, ensure traffic order and safety and promote operational efficiency, VEC also submitted to competent authorities a plan to expand the Yen Bai - Lao Cai section (Km123+090 - Km244+155) to a complete 4-lane scale. The expanded section has a total length of more than 121 km with a total investment of more than VND 7,600 billion; of which, VEC mobilized more than VND 4,600 billion, the remaining more than VND 3,000 billion from the State budget.

VEC aims to start construction of the Yen Bai - Lao Cai section expansion project in the fourth quarter of this year.
