Riverbank erosion, 4 - 5 m deep inland
At about 4:40 a.m. on May 27, at Luc Si Thanh Islet (in Long Thanh Hamlet, Luc Si Thanh Commune, Tra On District, Vinh Long , commonly known as Thua Thien Islet), a riverbank landslide occurred, putting 3 houses at risk of collapsing into the river.
Landslides on the Hau River branches put three houses at risk of collapsing into the river.
Mr. Nguyen Tan Tan, Vice Chairman of Luc Si Thanh Commune People's Committee, said that immediately after the incident, commune leaders arrived at the scene and mobilized forces to support affected households in dismantling houses and moving assets to a safe place.
Authorities put up warning ropes in dangerous areas.
"This area has had a landslide once before and it was repaired, but now it continues to collapse. Currently, the locality is coordinating with the Construction Management Board of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vinh Long and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tra On District to find the cause of the landslide and solutions," said Mr. Tan.
The landslide is close to the edge of Mrs. Thuy's house.
The landslide section is about 60 meters long, 4-5 meters deep inland, located in an area with a large number of households. Notably, landslides had occurred in this area before and had been reinforced and repaired. However, due to strong currents, many large-capacity watercrafts circulating and the rainy season, landslides continued to occur, making the people here extremely worried.

'Now go stay somewhere else, because I can't stay here anymore'
Ms. Pham Hong Thuy (residing in Long Thanh hamlet, Luc Si Thanh commune, Tra On district), a person directly affected, is still in shock. She recounted that at around 4:40 a.m. the same day, she felt the house shaking. The whole family panicked and ran out, but the ground collapsed up to the edge of the house.
"Now I have to go somewhere else to stay temporarily, I can't stay here anymore. This place has already eroded 4-5 meters, now it has eroded another 5-6 meters to my house. I'm so scared, I just want the government to support a solid embankment so that people can settle down and focus on making a living, but now I don't know what to say," said Ms. Thuy.
Landslides are still at risk of further occurrence.
As soon as the landslide occurred, local authorities deployed support for affected households to relocate their belongings and household items. At the same time, warning lines were put up, advising households not to stay in their homes in the dangerous area. Authorities have come to survey the cause to promptly take remedial measures.
Authorities assisted people in evacuating their property and surveying the damage.
Currently, the landslide shows no signs of stopping. Many cracks continue to appear and there is a risk of further landslides.
