According to the latest report from market research firm IDC, PC shipments in 2023 are expected to decline by 13.7% year-on-year to 252 million units.
The computer market is facing various challenges. |
Experts say the PC market still faces many different challenges. In particular, the demand of consumer groups, businesses and education has not yet recovered.
"Consumer demand remains quite low due to the impact of the difficult economic situation. In addition, the computer market is also under pressure from a series of other devices such as smartphones, game consoles and tablets," said Jitesh Ubrani, according to the research director of IDC.
However, signs of growth are starting to emerge again. PC shipments are expected to increase by 3.7% in 2024, to about 261.4 million units. That’s slightly higher than the 259.6 million units shipped in 2018, but still lower than in 2019.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is expected to be a bright spot to help promote the development of the computer market in the near future. In addition, the trend of flexible working will also be a driving force to help the market recover.
"The global PC market still has a lot of momentum to grow. Windows 10 will be discontinued in 2025. Therefore, many companies will need to upgrade their devices to suit the new operating system," said Ryan Reith, vice president of IDC.
