Strengthening security, order and traffic safety during Tet

During Tet, passenger transport businesses have had specific plans to meet the maximum travel needs of people. Mr. Tran Van Uong - Director of Duc Dat Thanh One Member Co., Ltd. (Pleiku City) said: Normally, the Gia Lai - Ho Chi Minh City route and vice versa, the bus company runs 12 trips/day, but starting from January 15, it has increased to 17 trips/day. In particular, from January 21, the number of buses increased to 24 trips/day.

The company has also arranged for a U-turn to meet the demand of passengers from Ho Chi Minh City to Gia Lai. Along with that, the Gia Lai - Da Nang route has increased from 5 trips to 8 trips/day and made an empty U-turn to pick up passengers from Da Nang to Gia Lai.

Meanwhile, Mr. Do Chien Dau - Operator of Duc Long Gia Lai Bus Station - said: The unit has proactively developed a plan to best serve people's travel needs, ensuring traffic order and safety during Tet.

Notably, the Bus Station has invested in repairing and upgrading the entire yard and entrance gate; performing general cleaning, maintenance, and refurbishment of the parking system; and equipping necessary equipment to serve people on this occasion.

According to Mr. Dau, from January 19, the number of passengers from Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, Hue to Gia Lai began to increase. The number of buses on the Ho Chi Minh City-Gia Lai route increased from 60 to 63 trips, the number of passengers going out was only over 400 passengers/night but the number of passengers going to Gia Lai was up to more than 1,000 passengers/night. The number of passengers on the Da Nang-Gia Lai route also increased compared to the same period in 2024. The number of passengers traveling on northern routes such as Hanoi and Hai Duong also began to increase slightly.

Regarding the travel demand of passengers by air during the Lunar New Year 2025, Mr. Pham Ngoc Thanh - Deputy Chief of Pleiku Airport Office - said: Starting from January 13 until now, airlines have increased 1-5 flights/day to serve the travel needs of people.

During this year's Tet holiday, it is expected that there will be about 92,000 passengers arriving and departing at Pleiku Airport. In particular, during the peak period (from January 18 to February 16, 2025), there will be about 262 flights departing and arriving at Pleiku Airport, an increase of 45% compared to normal.

“Pleiku Airport has increased staff to serve flights arriving before Tet and flights departing after Tet; arranged backup staff to be able to mobilize in case of unusual or unexpected situations. We also increased staff at congested points, organized guidance for passengers in front of the counter, and guided online check-in if passengers do not have checked baggage to relieve congestion at the check-in counter,” said Mr. Thanh.

Many solutions to ensure traffic order and safety

Along with ensuring people's travel needs, traffic safety work during the Lunar New Year and the 2025 Spring Festival season is also being strengthened by authorities.

Chief Inspector of the Department of Transport Tang Xuan Kien said: The Traffic Inspectorate has a plan to conduct regular and surprise inspections at bus stations and the Pleiku Airport area. In particular, it focuses on checking the posting and implementation of fare surcharges; some technical safety conditions of vehicles, conditions of drivers before departure; compliance with regulations in passenger transport business by taxi.

Regarding the work of ensuring traffic order and safety during the Lunar New Year 2025, Deputy Director of the Department of Transport Tran Dinh Son informed: The Department has requested transport business units to make plans to mobilize maximum means and human resources to serve passenger transport during peak times.

In addition, proactively coordinate with transport enterprises to unify measures to organize Tet transportation and have plans to arrange backup vehicles to be ready to clear passengers when the number of passengers passing through the station suddenly increases. In particular, coordinate with the police force to ensure traffic safety, security and order in the station, the area around the station and handle the situation of "illegal vehicles" and "illegal stations", resolutely not allowing touts, customer solicitation, theft, etc. to occur.

Discussing solutions to ensure traffic order and safety during the Lunar New Year and the 2025 Spring Festival, Mr. Phan Huu Hieu - Chief of Office of the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee - informed: The Provincial People's Committee has issued an official dispatch requesting departments, branches, sectors, People's Committees of districts, towns and cities to have plans to meet the increased travel demand, effectively respond to common violations of traffic order and safety during the Lunar New Year to ensure safety for traffic participants and best serve the travel needs of people; prevent and stop traffic jams and traffic accidents.

In particular, the Provincial People's Committee requested the Provincial Police to direct the Police of units and localities to increase patrols, control, and strictly handle violations that are direct causes of traffic accidents such as: violations of regulations on alcohol and drug concentrations, transporting oversized and overloaded goods, extending the vehicle's body, etc.; and increase the application of science and technology, professional technical equipment, and surveillance camera systems to detect and handle violations.

“According to the direction of the Provincial People's Committee, the Provincial Police, the Department of Transport and localities assigned focal points to organize 24/7 duty, report on the situation of ensuring traffic order and safety during the 9 days of the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday (from January 25 to February 2, 2025) and send daily reports to the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee for synthesis and reporting,” Mr. Hieu emphasized.
