(Baothanhhoa.vn) - Facing the risk of heavy rain due to the impact of storm No. 3, many localities in the province are urgently salvaging garbage, water hyacinth, and fallen trees in rivers and canals to promptly drain water and protect the safety of residential areas and summer-autumn rice crops.

In Quang Phu ward, Thong Nhat river, which is the main drainage route for the area, has been covered by a layer of water hyacinth, stretching for kilometers, causing the flow to be seriously stagnant. In recent days, the locality has coordinated with Song Chu Company Limited - City Branch to mobilize maximum machinery and equipment to salvage and clear the flow.

Not only at Thong Nhat River, but also at many rivers and irrigation canals, water hyacinths from upstream continuously flow in, covering the water surface, causing a blockage of the flow. Due to the large volume of water hyacinths, the work is carried out continuously by the forces, both salvaging and gathering water hyacinths and pushing them to the end of the spillway before bringing them ashore and transporting them elsewhere.

According to the plan, the whole province will dredge about 470,000m3 ^of mud and soil in drainage canals, of which inter-commune canals will be more than ^100,000m3 and intra-field canals will be more than ^366,000m3 ; at the same time, water hyacinth, water spinach, and rafts will be collected with an area of ​​over 1.4 million ^m2 and a length of nearly 784,000m.
