There are artists who, during Vu Lan season, take the opportunity to sing dozens of shows at pagodas.

Le Thuy, Thanh Dien: If you have the strength, go sing during Vu Lan season

Artist Thanh Dien, despite his poor health, still occasionally accepts temple shows during Vu Lan season. He said that singing on Vu Lan feels very different, solemn and extremely serious, the audience listens attentively, appreciating each song and excerpt that the artist performs. Because those are performances that are not purely entertaining but remind people of the gratitude to parents and the morality of children.

Thanh Dien is a Buddhist, so he thinks singing at the temple is his duty to improve his religion and life. He said that in the past, when his wife, artist Thanh Kim Hue, was still alive, she sang Vu Lan more than he did, and she wrote many meaningful songs.

Now when singing Vu Lan, he always performs his wife's old compositions, especially the song "Please Don't Make Me Cry" .

"When I sing, I always get choked up because of the meaningful content of the song and also because I miss my wife. The audience knows this song by Hue by heart, so when I sing it, they are also moved and moved" - Thanh Dien said sadly. He added that the older he gets when singing during Vu Lan season, the different his feelings are. Every time he sings a song about motherly love, he feels like he is contemplating and remembering his parents. Now that he is a father and a grandfather, Thanh Dien hopes that his children and grandchildren will continue to be filial to their parents and grandparents.

Artist Le Thuy, who returned from abroad, quickly accepted a Vu Lan performance in Ca Mau on September 12. For many years, Le Thuy has supported many pagodas in charity work, so there has never been a Vu Lan season where she does not sing to serve the people.

For Le Thuy, the image of her mother working hard making cakes and doing all kinds of jobs to raise her and her siblings is an unforgettable image. Therefore, for Le Thuy, singing praises to parents and spreading filial piety to everyone is a meaningful job.

Mother's love continues

Artist Binh Tinh just celebrated the fourth anniversary of her mother's death on September 9. She used all of Bach Mai's mother's royalties, plus her personal money, to give out about 150 gifts to poor and disadvantaged artists. Each gift includes 1 million VND in cash and necessities. Every year, Binh Tinh saves and gives gifts to artists and the poor in two periods, Vu Lan season and Tet season.

This year, Binh Tinh sang dozens of shows on Vu Lan, some nights she went to 2 or 3 pagodas. She said that once she accepted to sing at a pagoda during Vu Lan season, she did not dare to delay, although every time she sang, she could not help but feel sad when she saw that there were people who were still happy and wearing red roses, while she, lonely, had to wear white roses.

"But I see this as a season for me to calm my mind and remember my parents, as an opportunity for me to dedicate merit to my parents. In the past, during Vu Lan season, my mother and I often sang together. The first year my mother passed away, I did not dare accept the invitation to sing Vu Lan. In recent years, I have sung again, but I still avoid the places where my mother sang with me because I am afraid that I will miss her and be in pain!" - Binh Tinh said with a choked voice.

On the evening of September 9, artist Que Tran and a philanthropist organized a vegetarian Vu Lan Nghia Tinh party at her vegetarian restaurant. The program had the participation of many famous artists such as Minh Vuong, Thanh Dien, Chi Tam, Phuong Loan, Kim Tieu Long, Le Tu, Ha Nhu, Vo Minh Lam, Minh Luan...

Que Tran said that when singing during Vu Lan season, no artist calculates money at all, sings with all their heart and joins hands to do charity. Revenue from the program plus additional contributions from famous singer Minh Canh, Que Tran and other benefactors and artists will be used to support Nghe Si Pagoda. On October 13, she will organize another program to support poor and disadvantaged artists, workers and backstage workers.

Thanh Dien sings at Tuong Van Monastery

This year, the White Orchid group organized by artist To Chau has increased the number of performances compared to last year's Vu Lan season.

White Orchid is a singing group established by the late artist Ut Bach Lan with the wish to use her singing to help poor artists and those in need in society. Since Ut’s death, To Chau and the artists have carefully maintained the singing group, perhaps that is why many temples trust and invite them more.

To Chau said his group often goes to poor pagodas in many provinces and cities, hoping that those in difficult places can enjoy the singing of famous artists. There are pagodas that are so poor that the artists sing without being paid and have to pay for transportation and other expenses out of their own pocket to be able to serve the people.

White Orchid is accompanied by artists Dieu Hien, Thoai Mieu, To Chau, Linh Trung... singing performances such as Motherly Love, Muc Lien - Thanh De ...
