Speaking at the opening of the Conference, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho An Phong said that after the Covid-19 pandemic, Vietnam's tourism has had a strong recovery. In 2023, the tourism industry will welcome 12.6 million international visitors, serve over 108 million domestic visitors, and total tourism revenue is estimated at 678 trillion VND.

In 2024, we will continue to set a higher target, welcoming over 18 million international visitors. In fact, after the first 3 months of the year, Vietnam tourism has welcomed over 4.6 million visitors. With this growth momentum, Vietnam can completely achieve, even exceed the target of welcoming 18 million international visitors this year.

However, according to Deputy Minister Ho An Phong, to achieve this goal, the tourism industry must have a good plan, especially the connection, coordination, and mobilization of social resources to participate in tourism promotion and advertising.

"Although the results achieved are important, Vietnamese tourism is considered a bright spot in the world , but compared to the potential, advantages and great potential we have, we still have to make much more effort to achieve higher results," Deputy Minister Ho An Phong emphasized.

According to the Deputy Minister, the current world situation has many fluctuations, advantages and challenges intertwined, but the challenges are greater. In particular, armed conflicts, economic recessions, etc. are negatively and rapidly affecting sensitive areas such as tourism. Therefore, at this Conference, we need to have opinions and solutions to implement the tourism promotion plan to achieve the highest goals and results.

Deputy Minister Ho An Phong said that the essence of promotion is connection. State agencies are responsible for promoting destinations and the country's image, and businesses promote their products. From there, there needs to be connection, creating unity, and mobilizing resources to promote development.

"Promoting and promoting tourism is like a flow, it must be continuous, if we stop it will be forgotten. If we have beauty but do not persistently promote and connect it, the flow will stop," said the Deputy Minister, adding that tourism promotion and promotion work must always change to adapt.

According to Deputy Minister Ho An Phong, the tourism promotion plan is currently very broad, with many locations and potential markets, but resources are limited so the results are not as expected. Therefore, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism want to mobilize socialization, especially the cooperation of localities and the business community to create tourism promotion activities and events with national highlights.

Speaking at the Conference, Mr. Ha Van Sieu, Deputy Director of the National Tourism Administration, said: 2023 is the year of strong recovery of Vietnam tourism, with a rate of 68%. However, besides the advantages of increasing consumption trends, green tourism, and digital tourism, the tourism industry still faces difficulties due to fierce competition between destinations; high prices of services and air tickets... requiring research, forecasting and timely and effective response.

To achieve the goal of welcoming 18 million international visitors in 2024, the requirements for innovation and improving the effectiveness of tourism promotion activities set out in Resolution No. 82/NQ-CP and Directive 08/CT-TTg of the Government and Prime Minister are: Creating breakthroughs, changing thinking; highlighting the brand, worthy of the position; Connecting, unifying, and synchronizing.

Practical requirements require tourism promotion to meet regional and global competition requirements and keep up with changing market and technology trends.

Mr. Ha Van Sieu said that despite the strong leadership and direction of the Government and the Prime Minister, the responsible participation of localities, the support and solidarity of the business community; especially the visa and immigration policies have been strongly improved. However, there are many challenges to the promotion and promotion of Vietnam tourism.

Therefore, to create a breakthrough in tourism promotion activities, Mr. Ha Van Sieu said that at the central level, in 2024, the tourism industry aims to participate in 3 international fairs including: WTM London; CITM China and ASEAN - China. Along with that are 6 programs to introduce Vietnamese tourism in North America, Australia, China, Europe, ASEAN and India.

There will be 3 Vietnam Tourism and Cultural Festivals in Tokyo and Kanagawa (Japan), Korea. 10 famtrips and presstrips will be organized to welcome delegations from China, Korea, Japan, ASEAN, India, Australia, the United States, Europe, and Taiwan.

In particular, there will be a tourism-cinema promotion program in Los Angeles, USA, scheduled for the second quarter. This will be the highlight of Vietnam's tourism promotion in 2024.

To innovate and improve the effectiveness of tourism promotion, Mr. Ha Van Sieu emphasized that it is necessary to promote digital tourism; implement focused and key promotion activities; diversify types and methods of market access; mobilize resources, coordinate the implementation of tourism promotion activities.

At the Conference, representatives of local tourism industries and businesses gave opinions and suggestions on promoting and advertising in the coming time.

Need a breakthrough

Concluding the Conference, Deputy Minister Ho An Phong emphasized that tourism is a comprehensive economic sector. The development of tourism will promote the development of many other economic sectors, bringing many benefits and creating a dynamic economy.

According to the Deputy Minister, the results achieved in recent times are very important. Vietnam's tourism has recovered and developed, but promotion and advertising work still has many shortcomings, activities are scattered, many potential markets are left open... Therefore, tourism promotion and advertising work needs to be focused, synchronized and have breakthroughs.

Reviewing the main discussion contents at the Conference, Deputy Minister Ho An Phong emphasized 6 main groups of issues to promote tourism promotion:

Firstly, the Conference highly agreed on the Tourism Promotion and Promotion Plan issued in 2024. The exchanges at the Conference will contribute to implementing and concretizing the contents of the plan.

Second, there must be a connection between the state and businesses. Show great support for tourism businesses, create a playground for businesses.

Third, we must focus on promoting destinations and the image of Vietnam, promoting and developing products, and having products to promote.

Fifth, we must socialize the promotion and advertising work to mobilize resources and create strength. There must be connections but must avoid duplication between localities and must have a leading force to implement.
