Prime Minister urgently requests to prevent illegal poultry from entering Vietnam

The Prime Minister 's urgent directive stated: According to the reflection of media agencies and the Vietnam Poultry Association, recently the illegal transportation and trade of poultry and poultry products across the border into Vietnam has been quite common and complicated in localities sharing borders with other countries, especially in the Central and Southern provinces. The risk of avian influenza virus strains and many other dangerous infectious diseases spreading from abroad is very high, seriously affecting the poultry industry and people's health.

The Prime Minister requested the Chairmen of the People's Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities, Ministers and Heads of the National Steering Committee against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods (National Steering Committee 389) to proactively direct and resolutely implement urgent solutions to prevent, detect and strictly handle cases of illegal transportation of poultry and poultry products across the border into Vietnam, focusing on the following specific tasks:

The Chairman of the People's Committee of the province and centrally-run city, especially the border provinces and cities, shall strengthen the inspection, supervision and control work, especially at border gates, trails, openings in border areas, seaports, rivers... to prevent, promptly detect and strictly handle cases of illegal trading, slaughtering and transporting of poultry and poultry products into Vietnam. In case of detecting illegal imported poultry and poultry products, they must be re-exported or destroyed immediately; organizations and individuals who commit violations must be strictly handled.

Direct the local police, border guards, customs, and Steering Committee 389 to strengthen measures to combat and prevent the transportation and trade of smuggled poultry and poultry products across the border; coordinate with local authorities to promptly arrest and strictly handle cases of illegal import of poultry and poultry products; organize propaganda for people in border areas about the dangers of avian influenza and the harms of trading and transporting poultry that are not quarantined or of unknown origin.

Establish working groups to inspect and urge the control and prevention of illegal transportation and trade of animals and animal products into Vietnam. Focus on building animal disease-safe zones and facilities according to the regulations of Vietnam and the World Organization for Animal Health to promote exports. Complete and strengthen the capacity of the veterinary system at all levels according to the provisions of the 2015 Veterinary Law, the direction of the Politburo , the Secretariat, the National Assembly, and the Government on maintaining, completing and strengthening the capacity of the veterinary system at all levels according to the provisions of Article 6 of the Veterinary Law to ensure resources for effective implementation of animal disease prevention and control tasks.
