Chua Hang 1 Secondary School awarded prizes to students with high achievements at the first Student Swimming Competition. |
In the first days of the new school year 2025-2026, the yard of Chua Hang 1 Secondary School, Linh Son Ward was more bustling than usual. Not only was it the sound of the opening drum or the bright smiles of students on the day they returned to school, but also because of a special activity, the launching ceremony of the swimming movement, propaganda and education on skills to prevent drowning accidents and the first Student Swimming Competition.
In the cool blue water of the swimming pool, 88 athletes from grades 6 to 9 competed in 7 events. From the slow breaststroke of grade 6, to the powerful strokes in the freestyle swimming of grade 9, all created a true sports festival. But more importantly, through this activity, each student was trained physically, and most of all, equipped with an essential life skill.
Teacher Duong Van Truong, Principal of Chua Hang 1 Secondary School, shared: Practicing swimming skills not only helps students develop physically, but also provides them with a safe life in the context of many tragic drowning accidents occurring every year.
The school swimming movement at Chua Hang 1 Secondary School does not stop at one tournament. From regular propaganda, integrating drowning prevention content into Physical Education classes, to daily reminders about the dangers from ponds, lakes, rivers, streams... The school has been persistently building awareness for each student. Thanks to that, up to now, more than 60% of students know how to swim, an outstanding number, proving the determination of teachers and students of the school.
Some schools in the province have built swimming pools and organized swimming lessons and taught drowning prevention skills to students. |
Not only at Chua Hang 1 Secondary School, the promotion of school swimming movement is also in line with the general orientation of the province. Previously, implementing the direction of the Prime Minister in the Program to enhance education on knowledge and skills to prevent and combat drowning for students in the period 2025-2035, the Department of Education and Training of Thai Nguyen issued a specific instruction document, considering this a key task of the school year. Schools have paid more attention to building a school swimming movement. Swimming pools have been renovated, many swimming classes have been opened during the summer, and extracurricular sessions on drowning prevention skills have been organized regularly.
Some schools such as Mo Che Primary School, Thai Nguyen Specialized High School, Dai Tu High School... have also actively developed the movement, opened swimming classes and organized extracurricular activities on drowning prevention skills.
Recently, the Department of Education and Training also coordinated to organize classes on safe swimming techniques and drowning prevention skills for 620 children in Phu Binh and Kha Son communes. These activities have demonstrated the province's efforts in promoting the school swimming movement and raising awareness and skills to prevent drowning accidents for children.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Ninh, an expert from the Department of Education and Training, affirmed: Bringing swimming into schools is not only a simple sports activity, but also a sustainable prevention solution, associated with the responsibility of families, schools and the whole society.
In fact, the school swimming movement in Thai Nguyen is gradually moving from individual activities to a long-term strategy, linked to the goal of building a safe and comprehensive educational environment. From the first models, the provincial education sector is continuing to expand to many localities, encouraging the synchronous participation of schools, families and society.
