Switzerland increases coffee purchases from the Vietnamese market

In the first 5 months of 2023, coffee exports exceeded the 2 billion USD mark. The first batch of specialty coffee is about to be exported to the Japanese market.

According to data from the International Trade Center (ITC), in May 2023, Switzerland imported 18,340 tons of coffee, worth 111.39 million USD, up 11.5% in volume and 7.4% in value compared to April 2023, down 21.6% in volume and 18.2% in value compared to May 2022.

In the first 5 months of 2023, Switzerland imported approximately 87,360 tons of coffee, worth 525.9 million USD, down 9.2% in volume, but up 0.9% in value over the same period last year.

In the first five months of 2023, Switzerland imported 77,630 tons of coffee, excluding roasted and decaffeinated coffee (HS 090111), worth 430.43 million USD, down 9.7% in volume, but up 0.4% in value over the same period last year.

In contrast, Switzerland increased its imports of roasted coffee, excluding decaffeinated coffee (HS 090121), up 0.7% in volume and 9.5% in value, reaching over 5 thousand tons, worth 63.45 million USD.

In May 2023, the average import price of Swiss coffee reached 6,072 USD/ton, down 3.7% compared to April 2023, but up 4.3% compared to May 2022. In the first 5 months of 2023, the average import price of Swiss coffee reached 6,020 USD/ton, up 11.1% over the same period last year.

In the first 5 months of 2023, Switzerland imported coffee from over 50 countries and territories around the world . The main coffee suppliers for Switzerland include Brazil, Colombia, Vietnam, India, Costa Rica...

According to ITC, in the first 5 months of 2023, Switzerland imported 21,660 tons of coffee from Brazil, worth approximately 111.9 million USD, down 14.4% in volume and 1.4% in value compared to the same period last year.

Brazil's coffee share in total Swiss imports decreased from 26.29% in the first five months of 2022 to 24.8% in the first five months of 2023.

In contrast, Switzerland increased coffee imports from Vietnam in the first five months of 2023, up 8.1% in volume and 11.6% in value over the same period last year, reaching 8,180 tons, worth 19.11 million USD.

Vietnam's coffee market share in Switzerland's total imports increased from 7.86% in the first 5 months of 2022 to 9.36% in the first 5 months of 2023.
