That is the opinion of Dr. Cu Van Trung, Director of the Institute for Policy Research and Social Issues, with the World and Vietnam Newspaper about humanity and kindness during the recent storm No. 3 and the current flooding situation in Hanoi and the northern provinces.

What is your perspective on humanity and kindness during and after the recent storm No. 3? How was sharing demonstrated in the community during and after the storm? What positive changes can sharing create for society?

I believe that human kindness is a quality that exists forever in the development of humanity. Everywhere, in every community, and in every period of human history, there is the appearance of kindness and compassion of each individual.

Since ancient times in the East, there has been a typical character called Meng Chang Jun who specializes in helping ordinary people, the poor, and those who have fallen on hard times. The Vietnamese people are full of good qualities, kindness and honesty. More importantly, these virtues are multiplied and revealed more clearly through the events and incidents caused by natural disasters and floods.

As a nation that has gone through thousands of years of building and defending the country, the Vietnamese people have formed a very long-standing sense of community cohesion, closeness, love, and mutual protection to fight against foreign forces as well as protect dikes, villages, and crops from natural disasters that can frequently occur.

The recent storm No. 3 caused heavy damage to the provinces and cities in the North of our country. During and after the storm, the acts of mutual assistance and support of the people showed the solidarity, support and love for each other as a fine tradition and culture of the nation.

"Cars and trucks drove slowly together on Nhat Tan Bridge to help people riding motorbikes in the inner lane avoid being blown over by the storm. The story of a traffic police officer rescuing a panicked driver sitting in a car that had been hit by a fallen tree. The young man, regardless of danger, was ready to rush in to save people in the Phong Chau Bridge collapse ( Phu Tho ). These are stories of humanity and kindness during and after the storm."

In times of hardship and difficulty like this, all the sharing and kind actions that appear warm us and sow more faith in life. Obviously, if these noble qualities are encouraged and spread in each person, society will become better and better.

There are countless literary works, moral lectures and examples of human kindness that aim to guide society towards a positive and benevolent goal. Human sharing in difficult situations needs to be encouraged and inspired more so that the community can have more positive and widespread effects.

What touching stories left a deep impression on you during the recent storm?

Indeed, there are many stories that move us. There are stories of civil life, such as a number of cars and trucks moving slowly together on Nhat Tan Bridge to help people riding motorbikes in the inner lane avoid being blown down by the wind.

The story of a motorcyclist wearing a raincoat, alone in the middle of the road, the wind was blowing so hard that he could not move and many firefighters got out to help hold the motorbike and help it to the side of the road. It was the story of a traffic police officer rescuing a panicking driver sitting in a car that was hit by a tree on the side of the road.

Furthermore, the information that Quang Ninh and Hai Phong have given up 100 billion VND in government aid to the mountainous provinces affected by storm No. 3. That is the young man who, regardless of danger, was ready to rush in to save people in the Phong Chau bridge collapse (Phu Tho). These are just specific actions in many humane and kind stories during and after the storm.

It can be seen that both society and the political system demonstrate good qualities and kind actions that are worthy of praise. People protect each other because of the tradition of "loving others as you love yourself", the government shares resources with other places because there are places that are more difficult than the home province; functional forces work day and night to rescue people from being trapped, from storms and floods... All are the highest manifestations of compassion and human love.

In your opinion, what significance does kindness have in overcoming difficulties and what positive changes can it bring to society?

I believe that kindness has an invisible, miraculous power, it is like a spiritual medicine that helps people overcome difficulties and hardships in an extraordinary way. Small actions, caring gestures or inquiries make those who are affected and damaged feel warm and touched. It erases the usual selfishness and selfishness, bringing people closer together.

If a society is dominated by kindness and goodness, people will live in love, trust and safety. That is the dream and goal that any state or political regime calls for and strives for.

What role has the media played in spreading beautiful stories about humanity?

The level of education of the people is increasingly improving, along with that, people realize that people everywhere are the same, everyone has to make a living, has relatives such as parents and children... Therefore, any pain, disability or incident, risk caused by natural disasters, storms and floods that befall each fate, each situation makes the community feel sorry and sympathetic.

The media has done a very important job of awakening and cultivating all of our deep feelings. The media helps to spread and resonate with emotions, everyone wants to do something useful for the community and society.

I believe that social phenomena about certain situations and characters in storms and floods, when communicated in the right direction, will contribute to creating many positive effects and spreading to the community like stories about people, about honesty and kindness in storms and floods.

How do you assess the spirit of solidarity among the people during and after the storm? What factors contributed to that spirit of solidarity? What does this spirit of solidarity mean for the future of the country?

For the Vietnamese people, the two issues that make the spirit of solidarity of the people rise, most easily seen, are when there are foreign invaders and when fighting natural disasters and floods. Since ancient times, our ancestors have always had to face these two problems constantly and continuously.

Therefore, the solidarity, mutual love and mutual assistance of Vietnamese people seem to be "inherent in our genes", many folk songs, proverbs, legends and fairy tales express this spirit: " Gourd, please love the squash, although they are different species, they share the same trellis"; "One tree cannot make a mountain, three trees together can make a high mountain"; "Bees make honey to feed flowers, fish swim in the water, birds sing and love the sky, if you want to live, my child, you must love your comrades and brothers"...

People support and help each other in difficult times, together fight against foreign invaders as well as against storms, floods and natural disasters. In addition to having the good and noble qualities of all nations in the world in general, Vietnamese people also have very unique characteristics. The solidarity, mutual assistance, and kind stories that appeared when storm No. 3 hit all come from the deep roots of the long-standing cultural and historical traditions left by our ancestors and still exist today.

I believe that the issues raised above are very special phenomena about the nature of the Vietnamese people. That nature is noble, the Vietnamese people value emotions and love their fellow human beings. Therefore, in the process of building and defending the Fatherland, preserving, promoting and promoting in a correct way, and respecting this factor will help Vietnam to be steadfast and confident on the development journey ahead.

Thank you!
