In his commemorative speech, General Secretary and President To Lam reviewed the heroic past of the army and people of the whole country in general and the army and people of Hanoi in particular in the long resistance war against the French colonialists, liberating the capital, opening a new period of independence and development for the Vietnamese people.

The General Secretary and President emphasized that this historic moment was a testament to the national strength, solidarity, and aspiration for peace of our people; a milestone that opened a new period of development for the Capital and the country; marked the complete defeat of French colonialism in Vietnam, ending 9 years of protracted resistance. Hanoi - the Capital of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam - was cleared of enemies; our people were masters of their own destiny and the country, enthusiastically starting to build a new society - a socialist society; opening a new period of great glory in the thousand-year history of civilization and heroism of Thang Long - Hanoi in the Ho Chi Minh era.

General Secretary and President To Lam stated that the country is peaceful and unified, under the leadership of the Party, the Party Committee, government and people of Hanoi, together with the whole country, have made persistent efforts to overcome all difficulties, carried out the renovation and international integration process, and achieved great and historic achievements.

Hanoi today has become the national political and administrative nerve center, a major center of culture, science, education, economy and international integration; one of the 17 largest cities in the world with an increasingly civilized, modern, dynamic, creative appearance, imbued with the eternal cultural and historical values ​​of the thousand-year-old Dong Do - Thang Long land. The economic scale has continuously increased, reaching about 54 billion USD in 2023; the total product in the area (GRDP) has maintained a higher growth rate than the overall growth rate of the whole country; the total State budget revenue in the area has always met and exceeded the assigned target. People's lives have been constantly improved; in 2023, the average income per capita reached 6,348 USD, the poverty rate was only 0.03%, of which 19/30 districts no longer had poor households. Hanoi is always the locality with the highest human development index, scale and quality of education and training in the country.

With a surge of memories, comrade Nguyen Thu, representing a historical witness, recalled with emotion that when he was just 22 years old, full of youthful aspirations and enthusiasm, he was an infantry platoon leader of the Capital Regiment, the 308th Pioneer Army Corps, which took over the capital Hanoi.

Looking back 70 years later, Mr. Nguyen Thu shared that the soldiers of the past were extremely proud and excited about the dramatic changes in the capital and the country. The people lived in peace, happiness, and life became more and more prosperous.

Mr. Nguyen Thu advised that in order to have a beautiful life like today, previous generations had to go through many difficulties and sacrifice their blood and bones to gain independence and freedom. Young generations today should know how to appreciate, cherish and strive to study, work, contribute, and be determined to maintain the independence and sovereignty of the Fatherland, to build the homeland and country to be more and more prosperous and happy.

Representing the young generation of the Capital, Nguyen Chi Phuong, a student of Hanoi Law University, said: Our young generation was born when the country was no longer at war, and did not witness the heroic historical moments when the army marched to liberate the Capital 70 years ago. Chi Phuong believes that to have that joyful day of victory, many outstanding children of the Capital and the whole country, including union members and young people, wholeheartedly followed the Party, were ready to go anywhere, be present in difficult places when the Fatherland needed them, and were determined to die for the Fatherland; sacrificed themselves for the cause of national liberation and national unification.

Nguyen Chi Phuong, a student at Hanoi Law University, represents the young generation to speak.

Student Nguyen Phuong Chi expressed: "In this solemn and emotional moment, we - the young generation of Vietnam - would like to express our deep gratitude to the glorious Communist Party of Vietnam, great Uncle Ho, and the great sacrifices of previous generations for peace, independence, and freedom for the Vietnamese people."
