The steadfast communist soldier

Comrade Nguyen Van Linh's real name is Nguyen Van Cuc, alias Muoi Cuc, born on July 1, 1915, in a poor, patriotic civil servant family, in Yen Phu village, Giai Pham commune, My Van district (old), Hung Yen province, a countryside rich in patriotic and cultural traditions, the birthplace of many heroes and cultural celebrities. Born in the context of a miserable country, understanding the life of slaves, enlightened by the revolution, and guided by the ideology of Nguyen Ai Quoc, comrade Nguyen Van Linh soon joined the revolution at the age of 14...

Entering the resistance war against the US to save the country, comrade Nguyen Van Linh was trusted by the Central Committee and mobilized from Viet Bac to return to the people of the South, participating in leading the revolution in the South, with a new battle, a new, extremely difficult and complicated task (as Secretary of the Saigon - Cho Lon Regional Party Committee; Secretary of the Regional Party Committee; Secretary of the Saigon - Gia Dinh Regional Party Committee; Secretary of the Saigon - Gia Dinh City Party Committee, Secretary of the Central Office for the South...). During the fierce and arduous resistance war, under the leadership and direction of comrade Nguyen Van Linh, the struggle movements took place vigorously and widely, attracting a large number of peasants, workers, intellectuals, students, traders, artists... to participate in the struggle and create a vigorous and widespread climax. As a staunch supporter in the South, during the difficult period of the resistance war against the invading American imperialists, comrade Nguyen Van Linh demonstrated his leadership capacity, organized the correct and creative implementation of the Party's policies and guidelines, contributing to the great victory of the resistance war against the US, saving the country, liberating the South, and unifying the country (April 30, 1975).

The steadfast and creative leader of the Vietnamese revolution

In December 1986, at the 6th Party Congress, the congress that opened the renewal period, comrade Nguyen Van Linh was elected General Secretary. As General Secretary, he, together with the Politburo and the Party Central Committee, firmly, proactively and creatively led the revolutionary cause, overcoming all difficulties and challenges from within the country and around the world; firmly following the path of socialist-oriented renovation, being cautious with steps and methods to suit Vietnam's conditions; focusing on economic renovation; gradually innovating the organization and operation methods of the political system, resolutely not accepting pluralism and multi-party system, attaching importance to promoting socialist democracy. The articles "things that need to be done immediately" by comrade Nguyen Van Linh, signed NVL, published in Nhan Dan Newspaper in the early years of the renovation period, created a democratic, open, public atmosphere, speaking frankly, telling the truth, words going hand in hand with actions, contributing to the fight against negativity, cleaning up Party and State agencies...

During the term of the 6th National Congress, comrade Nguyen Van Linh was the Head of the drafting committee of the platform to be submitted to the 7th National Congress of the Party; directed the amendment of the 1980 Constitution, and passed the 1992 Constitution to suit the country's renewal period. The platform for national construction in the transitional period to socialism (1991 platform) was born in the context of complicated international developments, socialism in Eastern Europe disintegrated but demonstrated the steadfastness and determination of our Party and People. The platform affirmed Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh thought as the ideological foundation and compass for the Party's actions.
