Kazakhstan President postpones visit to Vietnam

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev postponed his official visit to Vietnam on June 11-13 due to large forest fires in the country.

Due to a large forest fire in Kazakhstan's Abay province, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev will postpone his official visit to Vietnam and wishes to make the visit at another suitable time, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs .

The fire broke out on June 8 and has engulfed 60,000 hectares of forest in the Abay province in eastern Kazakhstan, Sputnik Kazakhstan news agency said, adding that it is the world's largest forest fire in terms of area. The fire has left three forest rangers dead and 11 people missing.

President Tokayev is expected to inspect the area affected by the forest fire, hold an emergency meeting with local authorities and take necessary measures to support residents. The Kazakh Ministry of Defense has deployed forces to participate in fighting the fire, including 8 multi-purpose helicopters to drop water to extinguish the fire.

Kazakhstan is a Central Asian country with an area of ​​over 2.7 million km2 and a population of over 19 million people. It is an important transit hub for goods by land from Asia to Europe. Vietnam and Kazakhstan established diplomatic relations on June 29, 1992. Last year, the two countries celebrated 30 years of establishing relations.
