Russian President announces development of nuclear triad

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on June 21 that Russia will continue to develop a nuclear triad consisting of ground-launched intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs), submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs), and nuclear-armed aircraft.

According to Sputnik, Mr. Putin added that the new Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile, capable of carrying 10 or more nuclear warheads, will also enter combat duty. The weapons of Russia's nuclear triad help ensure effective and reliable strategic deterrence, as well as maintain the global balance of power.

On the same day, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu told military academy graduates that the “Western collective” is waging a “real war” against Russia. The Russian military will do everything to ensure the country’s security.
