Helicopter of the 18th Corps flew to rescue fishermen in distress at Song Tu Tay Island.

Southern Helicopter Company mobilized an experienced flight crew with a modern EC-225 helicopter and a rescue team to fly to Song Tu Tay Island to carry out an emergency rescue mission for a fisherman.

On the morning of September 6, the flight crew of the Southern Helicopter Company (Army Corps 18, Ministry of National Defense ) landed at the parking lot of Military Hospital 175, handed over the patient to the hospital for treatment, successfully completing the mission of medical rescue flight for fishermen in distress in the sea and island areas.

Previously, on the evening of September 5, following orders from superiors, the Southern Helicopter Company dispatched an experienced flight crew and a modern EC-225 helicopter from Vung Tau airport, along with the air ambulance team of Military Hospital 175 to fly to Song Tu Tay Island (Truong Sa special zone, Khanh Hoa province) to carry out an emergency rescue mission.

The patient is fisherman Nguyen Duc Quang, born in 1980, from Ly Son ( Quang Ngai ), diagnosed with type 2 decompression sickness due to deep diving, at the 21st hour, severe level, multiple organ damage (circulatory, respiratory, kidney, nervous) and complications of circulatory arrest, respiratory recovery difficult; prognosis of risk of aspiration, embolism, progressive paralysis, multiple organ failure beyond the treatment capacity of Song Tu Tay island infirmary, therefore urgently need to be transported by helicopter to the mainland for emergency treatment.

At around 9pm on September 5, the helicopter took off from Vung Tau airport, flew to Truong Sa island to refuel, then at 2:50am on September 6 landed on Song Tu Tay island. The emergency team quickly approached and loaded the patient onto the helicopter.

After many hours of flying through storms, the helicopter landed safely at the parking lot of Military Hospital 175, handed over the patient to doctors for continued treatment, and promptly saved the fisherman's life.

During the mission, despite having to fly at night, in complex weather conditions, with long flight times and take-offs and landings at many locations, the unit urgently prepared according to procedures; closely coordinated with the Air Defense - Air Force, the Navy and related forces to handle all situations well.

The flight crew coordinated smoothly, ensuring absolute safety and excellently completing the assigned tasks./.
