Helicopter takes comatose fisherman from Song Tu Tay island to mainland for emergency treatment

The air ambulance team of Military Hospital 175 (Ministry of National Defense) has just coordinated to bring a fisherman with critical decompression from Song Tu Tay Island to the mainland for emergency treatment.

Specifically, after diving more than 40 meters deep, Mr. N.D.Q. (born in 1980) showed signs of losing consciousness when returning to the ship. The patient was then taken to Song Tu Tay Island Infirmary in a state of deep coma, no pulse, purple skin, and complete paralysis of both lower limbs.

During a remote consultation and re-evaluation of the patient's condition via the telemedicine system on September 5 with Military Hospital 175 , doctors diagnosed the patient with type 2 hypotension, multiple organ damage with complications of reversible circulatory respiratory arrest, requiring continued treatment with hyperbaric oxygen, intravenous fluids, and corticosteroids.

However, patients respond poorly to treatment and are at risk of severe progression if not treated specifically at a specialized facility.

At 10:15 p.m. on September 5, following orders from the Ministry of National Defense , EC225 helicopter with registration number VN8619 of the 18th Army Corps and the 175 Military Hospital's air ambulance team, led by Captain and Doctor Nguyen Canh Chung, quickly set off for Song Tu Tay Island.

At 2:25 a.m. on September 6, the air ambulance team from Military Hospital 175 arrived at the island and approached fisherman Q. who was in a lethargic state, unable to open his eyes when called, and with unstable breathing and hemodynamics.

The emergency team assessed and provided first aid on the spot, performed CPR, controlled intubation, and stabilized the patient. The fisherman was then brought back to shore.

The helicopter landed at the Institute of Trauma and Orthopedics, Military Hospital 175 at 10:30 a.m. the same day. Here, the patient was transferred directly to the emergency department for specialized tests as well as consultation to make the most accurate diagnosis and continue to receive intensive treatment and care.
