Sharing about this issue, Prof. Le Ngoc Thanh - Principal of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy ( Hanoi National University) said: In the coming time, the school will innovate its admissions. Specifically, the school has studied the training models of Europe and the US. The school is approaching the US admission method, which is that students graduate with a university degree and then study Medicine.
From 2025, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy plans to apply an additional admission method for students who already have a university degree to apply for admission to the Medical and Pharmaceutical majors. Accordingly, for this group of students, the Medical major will study for 4 years and the Pharmaceutical major will study for 3 years.
Previously, at the recent integration week for new students, Professor Le Ngoc Thanh also shared about the profession so that students could visualize the path ahead.
“Medical profession is hard. Once students have the awareness to study medicine, they will have a good tendency. Society still says that medicine is a special profession and needs special treatment. In the current context, those working in the medical profession do not enjoy that special “privilege”, but that does not mean they forget to inspire students,” said Professor Thanh.
Because of the specific nature of the medical field, according to Principal Le Ngoc Thanh, not everyone can pursue it, and some students drop out halfway. The medical field is hard and arduous, and love for the profession alone is not enough. Without motivation and a process of striving, it will be difficult to succeed. Because the 6-year university period is only the beginning of the path to becoming a doctor. Therefore, students who choose to study this field need the support of their parents and even friends.
Traveling more than a thousand kilometers to study in Hanoi, Vu Ngoc Phu (Binh Tan District, Ho Chi Minh City) - a new student of Pharmacy, University of Medicine and Pharmacy said that partly because of his hometown in Hanoi, he wanted to return to his hometown to study. When his family learned about his choice, they were quite worried because he was the only one living here. However, Phu was determined to study, so his parents supported him and he began to get used to living independently away from home.
Also at the meeting, Mr. Tong Tran Quang (Yen Vien, Gia Lam, Hanoi) took his son Tong Tran Tuan Anh to enroll in school, both proud and worried about the long journey his son would take. Mr. Quang said that since he was a child, Tuan Anh was very shy, and was scared when he saw his father cutting a chicken's throat. Once, he joked with his son, "If you're scared, I'll let you study medicine." Unexpectedly, that joke encouraged his son to find a tutor to review Biology and choose to apply to medical school.
"When my child showed me the admission notice, my family was very happy because he passed as he wished, but they were worried that the 7-8 years of studying would be very difficult," Mr. Quang confided.
