Can Tho University 'upgraded' to Can Tho University under new model

Can Tho University officially transformed into Can Tho University according to the Government's decision, with 6 member schools.

On July 15, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long signed Decision 1531/QD-TTg to convert Can Tho University into Can Tho University, a public university under the Ministry of Education and Training . Can Tho University will reorganize on the basis of Can Tho University according to the provisions of the Law on Higher Education and related regulations.

Can Tho University officially changed to Can Tho University.

Can Tho University has 6 member schools, including: Polytechnic School, School of Information Technology and Communication, School of Economics, School of Agriculture, School of Education, School of Fisheries. In addition, the school also has 10 faculties, 3 research institutes and 1 Pedagogical Practice High School. The school also has two branches in Soc Trang and Hau Giang.

In the 2025 school year, Can Tho University plans to enroll more than 10,000 students, with 109 regular university training programs. Of these, there are 89 mass programs, 2 advanced programs and 13 high-quality programs.

Can Tho University currently trains 121 undergraduate majors/specializations, 58 master's majors and 22 doctoral majors. Of these, 13 majors train all 3 levels from undergraduate to doctoral. The school's regular training scale in the past 5 years has reached over 35,000 university students.

Associate Professor Dr. Tran Trung Tinh - Rector of Can Tho University said that the transformation into a university will enhance the position, quality and efficiency of operations in accordance with the strategic development orientation of the school for many years. At the same time, it will also pioneer in strategic orientation and planning of higher education institutions in Vietnam.
