During the opening ceremony of the class on traditional musical instrument making of the Mong ethnic group for more than 50 students in Nam Dich village, Nam Dich commune (Hoang Su Phi), "teacher" Sung Chu Din confided: "Nowadays, in modern life, young people are exposed to diverse cultural backgrounds. The transmission of unique cultural features of the ethnic group must be given more attention. If we do not transmit them to the next generation now, the cultural characteristics of the ethnic group will gradually fade away... Therefore, since the time I was the Party Secretary of the commune and now I have retired, I have always encouraged and persuaded people to learn and preserve the Khen melodies of my ethnic group."

For about 10 days, students will be taught the technique of making the Hmong flute. Students will clearly understand the role, meaning and origin of the flute. Understand the techniques of mixing and matching sounds and the content of the scale of the flute in the religious rituals and traditional customs of the Hmong people in each region of Ha Giang province. Through this, the artisans also guide students on how to organize and perform some simple flute dances. In addition, students will also be more aware of the guidelines, policies and strategies of the Party and State in promoting and preserving the cultural heritage of the Vietnamese ethnic groups in general and the Hmong people in particular.

Among them, Tinh lutes and flutes are important musical instruments commonly used in festivals and cultural activities. With the unique cultural features of the ethnic group, I, like many artisans in the region, are very active in taking full advantage of time to collect and pass on musical instruments and melodies to the next generation".

As one of the young students, Hoang Van Luan, born in 1994, residing in Chi village, Xuan Giang commune, confided: “Although life is busy with many troubles, when I learned about the class plan, I invited many people in the village who have the same passion to register to participate. After a week of being taught folk songs and techniques of using traditional musical instruments, it has helped our young generation to awaken a sense of pride and passion for the folk songs, folk dances and musical instruments of our nation.”

Preserving and promoting traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities, combined with tourism development, has become an important policy that localities pay attention to in order to improve the lives of people in ethnic minority areas. Head of the Department of Culture and Family Management Hoang Van Phu said: “Project 6 aims to: Restore, preserve, promote traditional cultural values, train and foster cultural staff; support cultural facilities and equipment for ethnic minority and mountainous areas to improve the level of cultural enjoyment for people associated with community tourism development. Implementing the project, the sector has deployed many activities to preserve and promote the good traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities in the province associated with sustainable tourism development”.

With the results achieved through the training course, the students have a clearer understanding of the Party and State's guidelines and policies in preserving and promoting the values of ethnic cultural heritage. From there, the artisans and students will continue to pass on to their descendants the understanding of the meaning, role and responsibility in preserving, conserving and promoting the values and unique cultural features of the nation for future generations.
