On the morning of October 2 (the 1st day of the 7th month of the Cham calendar), thousands of Cham people and tourists from all over gathered at Po Klong Garai tower, Phan Rang - Thap Cham city, Ninh Thuan province and Po Sah Inư tower, Phan Thiet city, Binh Thuan province to attend the Kate Festival 2024.
From early morning, the roads leading to Po Klong Garai tower were crowded with Cham people in traditional costumes. Cham dignitaries following Brahmanism led the procession carrying the Po Klong Garai (a king with great merit to the Cham people) in the costumes from Phuoc Dong village, Phuoc Hau commune, Ninh Phuoc district to Po Klong Garai tower.
Following the procession are Cham girls dancing gracefully and flexibly with fans to the rhythm of Ginang drums and Saranai trumpets.
Witnessed by thousands of people eagerly flocking to the ancient tower, Brahman religious dignitaries performed the ritual of opening the tower door, bathing the statue of the god, dressing the statue of the god, and pouring water on the statue of Siva...
In the ancient tower space, the Cham community representative expressed his remembrance and gratitude to the gods and ancestors who blessed them with favorable weather, good crops, and prosperity for every family.
While the dignitaries were performing the ceremony inside the tower, families, not only Cham Brahmans but also many Cham families following Bani Islam, also held ceremonies around the tower, respectfully thanking heaven and earth, gods, and ancestors.
Along with Po Klong Garai tower in Ninh Thuan, the Kate Festival on the morning of October 2 also took place at Po Sah Inư tower, Binh Thuan province.
After the opening ceremony of the Kate Festival 2024, there is a ceremony to welcome the Goddess Po Sah Inư in costume to the main tower.
Attending the opening ceremony of the Kate Festival 2024 at Po Sah Inư tower, Mr. Thong Ky, a Cham dignitary in Cham quarter, Lac Tanh town, Tanh Linh district, Binh Thuan province, said that in addition to respect and gratitude to the gods, grandparents and ancestors, the festival is also an opportunity for people to strengthen the spirit of solidarity, mutual love, raise awareness of national origin, moral values, spirit of harmony, and connect members of the community together.
Every year the State organizes the Kate Festival of my people, I am very happy. This year there is an exhibition of ancient kings' artifacts that I have never seen since I was young, and this year it is on display. I know and when I get home, I will spread it to my children and grandchildren to preserve the traditional culture of our ancestors, so that the Cham people can worship it for a long time. The Kate Festival takes place in a large space first at the temples, then at the Cham Brahman villages and finally at the families in the community, with religious rituals, creating a unique, rich and diverse flow of cultural and artistic activities.
The Kate Festival of the Cham people following Brahmanism has been included in the list of National Intangible Cultural Heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Kate Festival has become a meeting place for Cham culture lovers and also a destination for thousands of domestic and foreign tourists.
