Master advanced techniques step by step

Through connecting with central hospitals to develop new and specialized techniques, recently, some provincial and regional hospitals in the province have accessed advanced techniques right in their localities. Thereby, patients are treated promptly, saving costs; medical units are increasingly confident and proactive in mastering specialized techniques.

Dr. Nguyen Hung Dao, Director of the Provincial General Hospital, said: Techniques that could only be performed at the central level in the past have now become routine at the hospital. One of the outstanding techniques is coronary artery stenting or percutaneous nephrolithotomy. Previously, patients with kidney stones often had to undergo open surgery, which caused a lot of pain, slow recovery, and was expensive, but with the "hands-on" support from doctors at the Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, this technique has now been proficiently implemented at the hospital.

Similarly, other techniques such as: Endoscopic treatment of inguinal hernia, treatment of hemorrhoids with high frequency waves, laser... have also been mastered by some provincial and regional hospitals right in the locality, gradually replacing traditional methods that cause prolonged pain and are still covered by health insurance, close to home, convenient for care.

Mr. Hoang Van An, Ha Giang 1 ward, now 72 years old, said: “I have been treated many times at Ha Giang General Hospital and have had surgery for kidney stones, bladder stones, prostate stones and now embolization to treat liver cancer. Thanks to the new technique, I do not have to go far, it is less expensive, and it is also convenient for my family to take care of me.”

In order to meet the people's need for medical examination and treatment, in recent years, the Provincial People's Committee has signed cooperation agreements, provided professional support, transferred technology, and trained with a number of Central-level hospitals such as Bach Mai Hospital, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, Hanoi Medical University Hospital, and Central ENT Hospital.

With the professional support of central hospitals and becoming a satellite hospital of hospitals such as: Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, Hanoi Medical University Hospital, Hanoi Oncology Hospital, Bach Mai Hospital, Hanoi Heart Hospital... up to now, Ha Giang General Hospital has transferred and developed many new techniques such as: Arthroscopic surgery of shoulder and knee joints; knee and hip replacement surgery; spinal cementing, thoracic and lumbar spine fixation surgery; cerebral thrombosis removal; embolization in trauma, tumors, cancer; coronary angiography; coronary stent placement; pacemaker implantation; ECMO artificial heart-lung... In addition, Ha Giang General Hospital has successfully completed the rotation of staff to lower levels according to Project 1816.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Manh Khanh, Deputy Director of Viet Duc Friendship Hospital emphasized: “Since 2010, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital has implemented technology transfer projects for a number of medical units in Tuyen Quang province. In particular, the Provincial General Hospital, Ha Giang General Hospital... are the units that benefit from the project. We not only transfer technology, but also directly survey, train, and coordinate to perform difficult cases with local doctors. When provincial doctors are qualified to perform independently, we officially hand over. Not only do we transfer at provincial medical units, but we also survey and evaluate the facilities, equipment, existing human resources and capacity and ability to receive technical packages at departments that need to receive technology transfer at Son Duong Regional Medical Center, Na Hang Regional Medical Center”.

With the training support and technical transfer from central hospitals, it has contributed to improving the professional qualifications, diagnostic and treatment capacity of medical staff, thereby improving the quality of medical examination and treatment for local people, helping to significantly reduce the overload situation at central hospitals.
