U23 Vietnam learns from victory over Laos

After the 3-0 victory over U23 Laos at the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship, the U23 Vietnam team reviewed the entire match tape to gain experience.

The Vietnam U23 team defeated Laos U23 3-0 in the opening match of Group B of the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship held in Indonesia on July 19. Despite the victory, coach Kim Sang Sik's team still did not perform as well as expected.

Commenting on the match with U23 Laos, 19-year-old midfielder Nguyen Cong Phuong shared: "The first match is always difficult. In the first half, we did not play well, coach Kim Sang Sik also reminded and encouraged the whole team to improve.

After the match, the whole team sat down to review the entire match tape to gain experience. But the coaching staff will spend time analyzing it more carefully in professional meetings before the match against U23 Cambodia."

All three goals of the Vietnam U23 team against Laos U23 were scored by captain Khuat Van Khang and central defender Hieu Minh (double) instead of the strikers.

Talking about this, Cong Phuong said that it is not too important. "Whether it is a defender or a striker who scores, the most important thing is still the team's victory. Whoever scores is aiming for the same goal," he said.

In the match against U23 Laos, Cong Phuong entered the field in the 76th minute to replace midfielder Thai Son. He hopes to be given the opportunity to play in the next match against U23 Cambodia by coach Kim Sang Sik.

Cong Phuong shared: "I haven't had many opportunities to compete so I haven't been able to show much. I always try my best in every training session to be ready when given the opportunity. If I have the chance to play in the next match, I will try my 100% to contribute to the team."

"I can play many different positions. That is my advantage and I am always ready when asked by the coaching staff," the player of The Cong - Viettel Club affirmed.

The U23 Vietnam team will compete for a ticket to the semi-finals with U23 Cambodia on July 22. With the current situation, coach Kim Sang Sik and his team only need 1 more point to win a ticket to the semi-finals as the top team in Group B.

However, the goal of the U23 Vietnam team when entering the field is always to aim for victory, and preserve strength for the next race.
