The workshop "To make Khanh Hoa a comprehensive green destination" was organized by Tuoi Tre newspaper in collaboration with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Khanh Hoa on the afternoon of September 11 in Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa province.

On September 11, in Nha Trang, Tuoi Tre Newspaper and Khanh Hoa Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism organized a workshop "To make Khanh Hoa a comprehensive green destination".

This is a communication route within the framework of the Green Vietnam 2025 project, initiated by Tuoi Tre newspaper and the Vietnam Packaging Recycling Alliance, in coordination with the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Khanh Hoa and accompanying units.

Attending the workshop, on the Central leadership side, there was Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh - Director of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism - Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

On the side of Khanh Hoa province, there were Mr. Nghiem Xuan Thanh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Mr. Nguyen Long Bien - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; and leaders of departments, branches, business associations and localities.

The program consists of 2 parts, including Green Experience Day activities and the Workshop "To make Khanh Hoa a comprehensive green destination".

The workshop opened with a series of valuable information presentations from speakers, focusing on the potential, policies and international experiences to help Khanh Hoa become a leading green destination in the region and the world.

In addition to the presentations, the workshop had two open discussion sessions and roundtable discussions on the topic: Advice for Khanh Hoa Tourism to develop green and sustainably, focusing on the contents of the Green Tourism Standards for locations and accommodation facilities, aiming for 80% to achieve the green label by 2030...

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the workshop, journalist Tran Xuan Toan, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Tuoi Tre Newspaper, shared the Green Vietnam program initiated by Tuoi Tre Newspaper from 2022.

"Bringing the program to Khanh Hoa, we see that Khanh Hoa is facing a great opportunity, with one of the world's most beautiful coastlines and very special coastal forests. Therefore, we chose Khanh Hoa to organize the workshop "To make Khanh Hoa a comprehensive green destination", journalist Tran Xuan Toan shared.

According to him, when talking about green Khanh Hoa, we need to look at other cities such as Singapore, Bali (Indonesia) or Costa Rica in Central America with the garden model in the city. He emphasized the pillars to develop a green city, a green destination: "We need to see green development in addition to green living, there is also green infrastructure, green energy, green finance and green human resources".

Through the workshop, the organizers hope to receive many contributions from experts and activists so that Khanh Hoa can soon achieve the goal of becoming a comprehensive green destination in the world.

Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Nguyen Long Bien - Vice Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee - said that after the merger, Khanh Hoa province has become a land with rare advantages: long coastline, rich marine and island ecosystem, many famous bays and beaches such as Nha Trang, Van Phong, Cam Ranh, Ninh Chu, Vinh Hy; along with mountain, desert landscapes and diverse ecosystems.

Khanh Hoa also possesses a treasure trove of unique cultural and historical heritage, from Cham Pa culture to traditional works and festivals rich in identity.

This is the foundation for developing green tourism, green urban areas, green transportation, green energy and green community life, creating the driving force to turn Khanh Hoa into a center of sustainable development in the new period.

According to Mr. Bien, in recent times, Khanh Hoa tourism has had a strong recovery and growth. At the same time, the province has also promoted many green transformation programs, from urban development towards ecology, smartness, and energy saving.

In the global trend, "green development" is not only limited to tourism but also spreads to all fields: from urban planning, environmental management, transport infrastructure development, energy, technology to community education.

"That is the inevitable path to improve competitiveness, create sustainable value and ensure long-term livelihoods for future generations," said Mr. Bien.

Mr. Bien said that the orientation of the Central and local governments has clearly defined: tourism development associated with green urban areas, green economy, green energy is the pillar for Khanh Hoa to become a centrally-run city, an international sea tourism center and a growth pole of the whole country. Khanh Hoa has been implementing many programs: Green Transformation Project for the period 2024 - 2030; Green and sustainable tourism development plan to 2030; Khanh Hoa Province Green Tourism Standards.

Besides, the province is promoting the application of green digital transformation in urban, traffic and tourism management, building a shared data platform to improve governance capacity and service quality.

The Vice Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee said that the theme of the September 11 workshop "Khanh Hoa - a comprehensive green destination of the world" not only emphasizes tourism, but also aims at a comprehensive development strategy: Green tourism - Green urban areas - Green transportation - Green energy - Green community.

Many goals Khanh Hoa needs to achieve to become a comprehensive green destination

Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh, Director of the National Tourism Administration (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), shared: Reducing greenhouse gas emissions, developing green tourism, greening lifestyles, and sustainable consumption are major goals of the economy in general and Khanh Hoa in particular. Thus, developing green tourism is a matter of survival in international competition.

He said that Khanh Hoa is currently one of the provinces with the longest coastline in Vietnam, with a famous bay system. The coastal route is not only a natural advantage but also a resource for economic development, including tourism.

With its strategic location accessible by many means of transport, Khanh Hoa has become a destination for international and domestic tourists.

However, Khanh Hoa's adaptability is currently low as it depends on a few key markets and passively responds to global issues.

The Director of the National Tourism Administration pointed out the important goals that Khanh Hoa needs to achieve in the coming period: Develop comprehensive green tourism with a specific plan. Khanh Hoa must increase the rate of renewable energy use, control emissions, and proactively respond to natural disasters and marine environmental incidents. To increase revenue and experience but limit emissions, it is necessary to develop tourism associated with nature, culture and production life.

In addition, to achieve green transformation, we cannot fail to mention renewable energy development and sustainable human resource training...

"The application of digital transformation is extremely important in building green destinations and promoting green infrastructure development. In addition, digital technology helps market green tourism. I hope Khanh Hoa becomes a green destination positioned on the world green tourism map with the set goals," said Mr. Khanh.

3 pillars of mutual support for Khanh Hoa's green transformation

Master Huynh Ho Dai Nghia (Faculty of International Relations, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City) introduced at the workshop 3 mutually supportive pillars for Khanh Hoa's green transformation.

Mr. Nghia shared: "From a policy perspective, for the green transformation in Khanh Hoa to be comprehensive and measurable, first of all, the province should set a vision to become a "comprehensive green destination" by 2045, along with a net zero emission target earlier than the national milestone of 2050; this vision creates a framework for all subsequent policy decisions.

Green technology pillar : focuses on applying science and technology to energy, infrastructure and production to reduce emissions, build smart cities using renewable energy, electric transportation and management with real-time data.

The focus is on developing renewable energy and smart energy infrastructure, striving for renewable energy to account for a significant proportion by 2030 and reach >70% by 2045.

Public-private partnership (PPP) mechanisms need to be designed to attract large-scale projects, especially offshore wind power, along with risk-sharing measures to create investor confidence.

Green finance pillars : greening credit and public spending, developing carbon markets, issuing green bonds, building climate investment funds, and establishing standards and information transparency mechanisms to ensure capital flows to sustainable projects.

Regarding resource coordination, public investment needs to "lead" essential infrastructure, combine ODA mobilization and promote private capital for key green projects.

Green human resources pillar : putting people and communities at the center of transformation. The goal is to form a team of experts - skilled workers for environmental technology and sustainable management; retrain officials and civil servants on green growth strategies; expand green education from primary to university; at the same time attract leading experts and nurture the "green citizen" movement and volunteer teams.

The mutuality of the three pillars is clearly demonstrated: technology creates "green banking" projects for green finance to inject capital; green finance sponsors technology deployment and training; green human resources operate - supervise, ensure standards and social consensus.

Monitoring indicators can include: the rate of green-certified accommodation establishments, the rate of workers with updated green skills, the number of green sector enterprises... through the milestones of 2030 - 2045.

At the same time, integrate green goals into planning and promote digital transformation in environmental governance to ensure disciplined implementation.
