This helmet is completely different from modern helmets. There is a spike on the top of the helmet. What is the function of this spike? Is it just for decoration or does it have any special function?

As a backup weapon

In ancient times, the production level was still limited, so the phenomenon of weapons being damaged could happen frequently. On the dangerous battlefield, if weapons such as knives and swords were damaged, the sharp spear on the helmet would be an effective weapon to protect oneself.

Normally this spike would not be used in combat. However, in emergencies it is very useful, especially in close combat. When there is no weapon at hand, the helmet with the spear tip is the only thing that can be used as a weapon.

Head protection

This pointed design is to protect the head from severe injuries caused by blunt weapons such as hammers, sticks, etc.

On the battlefield, in addition to knives and swords, there will be other weapons such as hammers and clubs. The spike on the helmet acts as a cushion, reducing the pressure when attacked, thereby protecting the head when subjected to strong impacts.

Increase the majesty

The pointed tip and fringe on the helmets help the soldiers look taller and more muscular, adding to the sense of majesty and power of the army. In addition, the fringe is also a sign to identify the enemy and your troops in the chaotic battlefield, avoiding mutual slaughter.

The length of the spike and the color of the tassel could also be used as a symbol of rank between generals of different levels, to facilitate unified command and coordination in battle.

Used as a cooking rack

In ancient times, soldiers often had to march for days when going into battle. If they encountered a situation where they did not have cooking utensils or the fire brigade could not keep up, the soldiers could use their helmets as cooking pots. The pointed part of the helmet could be removed and used as a stand for the special pot.
