Vietnam has two more Michelin-starred restaurants in Ho Chi Minh City.

On the evening of June 5, in Da Nang, Michelin Group announced the list of selected restaurants meeting Michelin Guide standards in Hanoi , Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City.

Among the restaurants that received one Michelin star certification this year, there are 7 restaurants that kept their Michelin stars and 2 new restaurants including Coco Dining (HCMC) and CieL (HCMC).

According to Michelin Guide, Coco Dining restaurant (HCMC) has a dining space with its own style, where chef Vo Thanh Vuong introduces contemporary cuisine , combining Vietnamese recipes with modern techniques and fermentation methods.

Meanwhile, CieL restaurant (HCMC) has an innovative culinary style with sophisticated processing techniques and a cozy culinary space.

Restaurants that still retain one Michelin star include: Gia, Hibana by Koki, Tam Vi (Hanoi); Long Trieu, Anan Saigon, Akuna (HCMC), and La Maison 1888 ( Da Nang ).

The new Michelin Guide features 181 dining establishments – with nine restaurants awarded one Michelin star (including one new restaurant and one upgraded restaurant), 63 Bib Gourmand establishments (including nine new establishments) and 109 dining establishments selected based on the quality of the dishes served (including 14 new establishments).

Among the new establishments added to the Michelin Guide list, there are 10 establishments from Hanoi (5 Bib Gourmand, 5 MICHELIN Selected and 1 Michelin Green Star).

7 establishments are from Ho Chi Minh City (1 restaurant with one Michelin star and 6 Michelin Selected), 7 establishments are from Da Nang (4 Bib Gourmand and 3 Michelin Selected).

Additionally, a restaurant in Hanoi has also been honored with the new Michelin Green Star award - recognizing notable efforts in practicing sustainable and environmentally friendly development.

“We are proud to see an increase in the number of Michelin-starred dining establishments this year, and these establishments are staffed by talented chefs. Many of them have returned to their roots, combining modern cooking techniques to tell the stories of their homelands and rediscover the flavors of their childhood.

At the same time, street food stalls, family-run eateries, and long-standing dining establishments still focus on preserving culinary traditions with authenticity and passion,” said Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of Michelin Guide.

Selected by anonymous judges, the restaurants on the list must meet five global criteria: quality of ingredients, culinary skills, harmony of flavors, the chef's personality expressed through the dishes, and consistency over time.

This year's event features guest chefs from Michelin-starred and Michelin Selected restaurants such as chef Davide Garavaglia from the two-star Côte restaurant in Bangkok (Thailand), chefs Yun Dae-hyun and Hee-Eun Kim from the one-star Soul restaurant in Korea...

Michelin Guide will officially launch in Vietnam in 2023, marking an important step forward for Vietnamese cuisine on the world culinary map. Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are the first two cities to be included in the list, while Da Nang will be added from 2024.
