Within the framework of the 5th Imedghassen International Film Festival in Batna city of Algeria, on the evening of September 15 (local time), Algerian audiences enjoyed the feature film "Peach, Pho and Piano" of Vietnamese cinema.
In this festival, Vietnam is the guest of honor.
In addition to the feature film “Peach, Pho and Piano” which was screened, Vietnam brought to the Film Festival two documentaries, “ Dien Bien - Land and People” and “Dien Bien Phu Victory in 1954 - 56 Days and Nights that shook the World” to compete.
The works participating in the Film Festival are quite diverse, including feature films, documentaries, animations and revolutionary films.
Sideline activities include exhibitions, tours, forums, professional exchanges, art nights, etc.
According to the Organizing Committee, there were 580 films from 27 countries registered to participate, of which 53 were screened at the Festival.
Before the screening of the film "Peach, Pho and Piano," Vietnamese Ambassador to Algeria Tran Quoc Khanh had a talk with Mr. Issam Taachit, Director of the Imedghassen Film Festival.
The Ambassador expressed: “Participating in this Film Festival is a great honor for us. This time, although it is the first time Vietnam has participated, we have two documentaries submitted by Dien Bien province, the sister province of Batna, and a feature film premiered, Dao, Pho and Piano, three very important elements in the life of Hanoi , the capital of Vietnam."
In front of the Algerian audience and many other countries, Ambassador Tran Quoc Khanh said that the film not only tells the story of the national resistance against French colonialism, but also incorporates a romantic love story between a militiaman and a young lady, creating a contrast between beauty, love, art and war scenes.
In an interview with a VNA reporter in Algiers, Ms. Sam Genet, Director of the African Film Festival in Switzerland, said she came here as a judge for the documentary category.
Ms. Genet shared: “This is my second time in Algeria, and my first time in Batna. On this occasion, I want to learn more about Batna, as well as the artistic values at this film festival."
According to Mr. Siffeddine Toulmit, Director of Organization and Logistics of the Film Festival, this year the Organizing Committee has a category dedicated to Algerian revolutionary films.
“Through the Film Festival, we not only honor history but also showcase the depth and creativity of Algerian cinema in this important genre,” said Mr. Toulmit, expressing his hope that Vietnam will participate in future film festivals in Batna and that this relationship will continue to develop into other activities such as artist training, experience sharing, etc.
“Peach, Pho and Piano” by director Phi Tien Son was also chosen to represent Vietnamese cinema in the preliminary round of the 2025 Oscars. The film was also awarded many domestic awards such as the Silver Lotus and Silver Kite.
